Congrats on the bass! I have to agree, that would be the ultimate fiver! Bound and blocked with a matching headstock. My GAS would be cured....momentarily, anyway!
Considering a Skyline 55-01 because of its 35" scale and 19mm string spacing. For a case to put it in, should I go with the Lakland-branded case or is there something just a bit less expensive that will work?

I have a set of J5 single coil pickups in the classifieds from a JO5.
Someone has asked if they are 19mm.
Anyone know the answer to that?

are they exposed pole?
you could measure the distance between the center point of the poles, to get an approximate bridge spacing.

I remember liking the stock Lakland strings my US Lakie came with almost 5 years ago.
Then I used mostly DR Hi Beam strings.
Nowadays I'm feeling like Hi Beams are lacking in the bottom and mids so I'm curious in going back to Lakland strings.
Any thoughts?

I know right??!! I didn't think it was going to come with a matching headstock so this is an unexpected bonus. It really changes the look, and I bet it does wonders for the tone too.
I wish I could get this exact bass in a five string in a 34 inch scale.

I used Lakland strings almost exclusively on my 55-94 back in the day. They for sure are fuller sounding than Hi Beams, but then again almost all strings are. The main reason to use Lakland strings for your 5 string bass is they are the correct length for a 35 inch scale bass strung through the body. Now this is more common, but 15 years ago it was a little more challenging to find. I like their nickels which are not unlike daddarios or boomers.

Try the DR Pure Blues... the bottom would make spinal tap proud.
They're round core like the Hi Beams, and nickel, but they have snap and punch like I haven't heard in a looong while... I'm more used to the hex core of the Lo-Riders, and the Pure Blues are about 1/2 way between the stiffness of the lo riders and the springiness of the hi beams. but the bottom... it's an amazing difference.
I just put Pure Blues on my Lull PT4. Those strings with t-bird pickups....rock & roll, baby.
All my Lakland 5s have fit great in Gator hard cases, and I'm pretty sure the story would be the same for most of the major case manufacturers. Just make sure the case is one with an open rectangle design for the body, not one of the ones with the inside molded into a specific shape.
I have decided to have my fretless AJ5 fretted! I love the bass and thought about buying another neck from Lakland but then how cool would it be to have a fretted ebony figerboard/no dots? Plus I have another fretless 5 bass that I just can't part with and have no need to double up on basses.
