Comparing to a Fender Deluxe is a different story. If it's an American deluxe, then it's going to be a hard comparison. Some of the deluxe I've played were fantastic, some we're not better than a Squier. The big difference is the preamp in the bass vs the 4460 not having one. Of you are planning to put a pre in the 4460 and do the neck treatment, the the 4460 Will most likely kill the deluxe. If the deluxe is Mexican, then the 4460 will kill it stock.

Also, I can't tell a difference in quality between the Korean and Indonesian basses from Lakland. To qualify that statement, I've done quality control for over 10 years and I'm very picky. I also have both Indonesian and Korean Laklands.

Thx again! Yes, '07 AM Deluxe, plays fantastic, neck/frets are excellent. I might just change the preamp, IDK, :sour:. The 44-60 I'm looking at is an '10 model, made in Indo.
Yes, I would make it active with a J-retro in either bass. I really want that Tommy Shannon recorded blues tone, maybe I can dial it in on the Deluxe Jazz once I change the preamp. Thing is, I REALLY like the downsized body/headstock on this '07. Hmmm.

Getting that Tommy Shannon, he's one of my favorites, sound is a mixture of your attack, where your tone knob is set and where you play on the bass. I'm able to get this on on all of my basses by just experimenting and learning the controls. Believe it or not, I get the best Tommy Shannon tone on with my 55-02 equipped with Bartolinis. That being said, all of my basses, active and passive can get it with variying nuances. Playing closer to the neck, if not on the neck gets me there.

Hey, y'all. 4-94 owner here. I'm curious about the number of U.S. Duck Dunns out there - I've been keeping an eye open, and there are a fair number of Skylines out there in the classifieds, but I think I've seen one ad for the U.S. model on TB in the past six months. Have these achieved "un-obtanium" status? Or will those of you who own them have them placed in your casket when you die?

OK. As my 55-64 PJ project rolls on I now have all the needed parts in hand to move forward. No decisions on finish color just yet so we will tackle that later on. But I need some help and opinion on the bridge jazz pu placement. I measured from the front of the nut to the center on the bridge J on my DJ5 but that is not helpful because I cannot duplicate that on the 55-64. So it obviously has to go in the small space between the bridge and pickguard. But where exactly? Should I just place dead center of that space? In looking at as many Lakland pj models as I could find the actual position seems to not be centered but favor the neck side a bit. Does it matter that much sonically?

Can anyone who has a BG or DD PJ take a measure that for me from the center of the two P lobe overlap to the center of the J pickup? Or any other measurements that may be helpful. Perhaps front of the nut to pickup center, considering the 35" scale.

I've owned one (twice) the DD#20 that was once owned by Branden Campbell. That one has been passed around TB quite a lot. Bass Club Chicago had it for a while as well.
I've also owned a Bob Glaub that was essentially a DD in disguise (bound-blocked and jazz neck).

So what you should surmise from all of that is: they made at least 20
They come up from time to time, but yes, they are pretty rare.

Well, nevermind on the measurement request. In researching I see that the 55-64 import has a longer pickguard than the two bases I mentioned and in looking close at some scale comparisons there is no way to practically get the same pickup placement from nut to J PU, Bridge edge to J PU or even P centers to J center. So my only option is to simply place it in the gap between the bridge and the PG and hope for sonic magic! How bad can it be?

Hi crew! Does anyone have a nice JO or DJ to trade for a Fender AM Deluxe? (I know it's a stretch, but some of you have more than one that never gets played, I just know its here somewhere...).
After about a dozen or more Fender Jazz's, This Deluxe was the Cream of the crop and it just doesn't fit like my DJ, so I want another DJ or a JO.
HERE is the FT/FS thread. (hope this is OK with moderators, plz let me know if it is not accepted in this thread)
Looking for similar condition/value Lakland Skyline.

Kidding, but I think you might be hard pressed to find someone here willing to let go of a Lakland for one of those whose name must not be spoken basses, as nice as it might be. Good luck though, a good plan IMO to get another Lakland :)

After this weekend's marathon of gigs I am even more pleased with my Lakland stable. I was able to play all 4 Laklands this weekend and I am giddy with the sound of all four. I have every tonal spectrum covered, and voicing of every one of my Laklands is exactly what I want. I recorded the audio from the mixer and was able to hear the true sound that the audience was hearing, not just the stage sound, this makes big difference in your tonal opinion, at least to me. The only thing that I decided this weekend was that I was tired of dragging around my full rig, so I bought a Sansamp VT Bass Deluxe today to try out using only the VT into the board this Saturday at the next show.

I had decided to put Aguilar pups in the DJ5, but this weekend swayed me against it. It just sounds so good stock. I would venture to say that it is as versatile as my 55-02, as I played the DJ5 and 55-02 the first night. The Duck Dunn and 55-01 with US Bart pre are very evenly matched and complement each other very well tonally, I used this pair the second night. I've said several times, and I'll say it again, the cheap pre in the 55-01 is the weak link, put a better pre in this bass and it shines, if you like the P Bass sound, a better pre in the 55-01 gives you modern active PBass in spades!
