I have another Lakland on the way (Skyline 55-64) - does that mean I can get another number? VBG!

I had my 55-94 out for practice last night after using a fretless for a couple of weeks - fell in love with it again!

Sorry, one per customer. It is scientifically proven that as a Lakland owner, the number of Laklands owned by any individual will swell and ebb over any length of time, thereby causing a significant increase in the amount of time @basspraiser has to spend away from his Laklands in order to maintain the list of numbers.

Any tech help on a stock Lakland Skyline DJ w/Fralins?

I have a question about the Potentiometer values on the passive model. On my '05, the vol pots and the tone pot are all 250k. I believe this is aftermarket, as Stock on the '06 came with 500k Vol and 250k tone.
The 250k volume pots drop volume fast. It's not an smooth transition. Shouldn't the Fralins be wired with 500k volume and 250k Tone?
Just asking before i tear it down and wire up the other pots. Might save me some time.

Higher pot value (500K) gives a brighter sound. Lower (250K) is a bit darker. There is no right or wrong in this case. It's what your ears like, you can mix a 500K and 250K without issue. In addition there is a difference between an audio taper and a linear taper pot, your 250K that drops volume fast is probably a audio taper. At 10, both audio and linear taper will be 100%, at 0 they will both be 0%. at 5 the linear will be at 50% and the audio will be less than that maybe 25%. Again no right or wrong. I like 250K on both, but prefer audio taper on my volume and linear tape on my tone, but it's not that big of a deal to me over all if it audio or linear. Also, your capacitor will effect your tone too. The higher the value, the lower the frequency cutoff, so a 0.1uF cap will cut more treble than a 0.047uF or 0.022uF.

Hey fellow Lakland owners:
Now that Jeannie is out of business, where can I go to get a pickguard for my 55-02 and 44-02 basses? Quickgaurds has them for the P and J basses, but nothing for the 44-02 or 55-02 design.
Any ideas?

I've used Terrapin Guitars, but they do not have templates for Lakland basses and require a tracing or the original guard be sent in.

I gotta ask, when did you order? I ordered in June and am on schedule for December delivery per Leo, but no photos and no idea where it is in the production cycle.

Don't be afraid to contact Leo via email. Just ask.

The last time I custom ordered, Lakland was still sending out for paint and ordering wood (necks and bodies), but currently have in-house CNC and finishing so I don't know how those changes have impacted the schedule of builds. Back then at the half way point I would have said preparing for paint, but now, not sure.

Like I said, just email Leo, who knows, he might even have a shop floor photo or two ready to send your way.

No photos at the moment, but honestly I'm trying to be good. I originally ordered it as a graduation present to myself for when I finish my certificate at Berklee, but I had to push a course back, so I'm not finishing it until March now and I feel a little guilty getting it early (12yrs of Catholic school will do that to a guy).

Feeling like I hit the lottery! Just a few short weeks ago I only dreamt of having a Lakland...now I have two! The 'burst 55-02 Deluxe with an exceptional quilt top was a gift from my wife for 25 years of marriage! I dug it so much that I jumped at the chance to have another fiver...a 55-01 Deluxe Limited in trans blue, quite a beauty too.

I can't get over how much of a pleasure it is to play these. Until I laid hands on the 55-02, I hadn't played a Lakland fiver at all. It was a little scary considering it was a gift and I didn't want to think of how to deal with the situation had it turned out to be a bust. The wife picked this particular model on her own with no influence from me... I was impressed! However, I had played a friend's 44-64 Custom and his Skyline Hollowbody and knew how great the fit, finish and setup was. It turns out the 5 string neck seems like it was made for my hands.

I had both of these at a rehearsal last night and the proof is in the pudding, I dug them both! Now to ramp up my technical skills to match the basses!

As far as guilt about an "early" graduation present. If you're still graduating and from Berklee no less, then there's nothing to feel guilty about. Just don't neglect your studies for that last class if you get the bass before you finish out.
