Exactly, a few more clear coats and loads of buffing.
It came to me with Nordstrand Fat Stacks and the original Bartolini MK1 preamp.
I am actually enjoying the Bart pre just fine, although it is quite different than the LH3 though which has it's good and bad sides. On one hand it's, well, different...which can be good. On the other hand though it requires a little tweaking on the amplifier to keep a consistent tone between the two.
Nevertheless I dig having these things in my arsenal...both fine examples of what a 5 string bass should be in my opinion.

I just picked this up used at my local GC. It's a 2007 (first 2 digits on the sn are "07") Skyline Series DJ4 in lake placid blue. This bass almost looks unplayed, and whoever owned it prior seems to have taken great care of it.
The only thing that seems to have been changed is the pg. the pups are fairly hot, and they give it a nice, ul front tone. The tone control also has a very usable range. The neck also feels fantastic. I normally prefer a P Bass neck, but this one feels slightly chunky, at least, to me.
I'm new to Lakland basses, but I've only heard positive things about them. I just have a couple of questions. First, where is a good, reliable shop to source a new pg? I'd like to get either black or aged white pearl. Second, are there any support rods in the neck, as I've read a couple different things regarding that. Thanks!

Nice! I owned one just like that for awhile, and I wish I still had it.
Regarding the PG, you could always get Lakland to cut you one if you send them the existing one. Pickguardian and Quickguards are also options. No support rods in that neck, though - those are only in the USA models.
Thanks for the info. I'm not really concerned about the neck having (or not) support rods, it's more for personal knowledge on how it's constructed. It isn't twisted, and the trussrod works, and that's far more important to me. I figure that if it isn't buggered up after 8 years, it'll be good for the long haul. It needed a slight tweak to the trussrod, and it literally only took a hair over 1/8th of a turn to get it right. I'm also happy that it doesn't seem to be overly heavy (I'm guessing it's under 8), and it balances nicely on a strap. One other question:I'm assuming it's a poly finish, right? I didn't really find any info on the Lakland website.
Congrats! Agreed, the DJ necks are a little chunky relative to most other J necks. I've read that that's meant to mimic Darryl's mid-60s Jazz.
One minor note: The five-string Skylines also have support rods. But yes, the fours do not. I've never had an issue with stability in my Skylines' necks, though.

Nice DJ! I got a LPB one too, albeit a newer one (2013). Go for a pearloid PG, matches great with the block inlays IMO. Drop in a DJ Retro, string it with DR Fat Beams and you're in heaven tone-wise, I know I am.

Related to that, how does the dead spot show up on the Laklands WITH the rods? I have a 55-94 due to arrive in December, so I'll find out, but I'm curious if I would want to sell my 2014 Fender American with CS 60's pups for a Lakland P or J style bass. I love the sound of the P bass with the 60's pups, and it seems to be well rated vs. e.g. EMG GZR pickups, but the G-string deadspot is like, dead-dead. Like D-E-D, dead. Any thoughts?
Congrats on the new DJ4. I love mine a lot . I just ordered one from Mike at Quick Guards. I sent him mine to make a pattern from and I should get the new one by next week I think. Seems to be a good guy to deal with but this is my first time so we will how how they turn out. Also ordered one for my new Skyline 44-64 PJ went a little crazy on the design
Thanks! FWIW, I've heard good things from tb'ers who have ordered replacement Fender pg's from Quickguards. Hopefully it'll be the same for your Lakland.
