Oh yeah, I am! You're absolutely right. Don't tell the other guys, but that beautiful Spector will be on it's way out, as this Carlo bass obliterates it. Really I was trying to fill that same humbucker type void in my life and then all this happened. On that note, I'm going to go play the Carlo!

Just got a Skyline hollowbody last week - the neck is great, I like how punchy the bridge pickup is, and it really blends well with other instruments, whether recording or playing live. It came with some well-aged LaBella flats, too.

In general the consensus was that this one was just on an entire other level from those I've owned in the past. It's so funny the things it comes down to that makes your instrument perfect for you. Most of the other brands are on same level or at least close in quality to this...it's just that the planets have aligned and every aspect of the bass is perfect for me! It's so supportive. The B is amazing!....Interesting considering I also own another 5 string 34" scale bass that at one time had a low B. This one is so much better. I defintely think the big humbuckers help...and just the physical weight of this bass. (It's nearly 2 pounds heavier. Everytime I pick it up I go "Oh my gosh, that feels heavy!" Then I strap it on and it balances wonderfully. I forgot what it's like to have a low B. How powerful it is. How much emotion it adds. REALLY fits with the drums and piano.

It's fun having all that pickup there. Your fingers just bounce off the pickup and back into position. I imagine this helping to build up speed, similar to a radiused pickup ramp, minus the radiusedness.

It's really versatile obviously with all those pickups going on, and I'm not gonna lie, it does look a little ostentatious, but whatevs. It's going to take a little time to become fluid with pickup changes on the fly, but it's so nice to have options. If one thing is lacking a bit, it's the volume when single coils are activated. Pretty big drop in volume and because the bass is passive, there isn't a whole lot of gain on reserve to boost it. I pretty much have found if I keep one humbucker in at all times my volume doesn't drop no matter what I have going. That'll be fine with me.

There's a little bit of the Sadowsky Modern/Wal sound in there when I use the middle and bridge humbuckers for sure. Just the middle one and a variation on a Stingray sound appears. That front bucker alone can get P bassey which is nice, but still retains that coily humucker sound a bit if that makes sense. Need to play with the single coils more. Certainly doesn't sound like a jazz bass, but I already have a Lakie with single coils for authentic jazz tones.

Overall....wonderful! Everyrhing I was expecting sonically, playability obviously, and between the buckers, different woods, and different pickups, and even string orientation (low B-G on this bass, E-High C on the other) you just couldn't have 2 Intruments that were more different from eachother!
To sum up: Sorry Doug, you're not getting this bass ;-) I just went out and bought a matching plot because I want to be burried with her!

As for the single vs. humbucker volume drop...that will happen...my 55-07 is very similar....but more "hollow" and less volume drop due to the pre-amp....you may just have to put a pre-amp in it...

why would you do single coils anyways? when you can rumble da building, why tinkle da chandelier??

congrats!!!! punchy is a good term...I got my first HoBo a bit ago and was surprised to hear how punchy it was....

Ahhhh...you kids and your Newfangled 35" scale. Us older, more-experienced players need to save our brittle fingers from such excessive stretching ;-)

After playing this bass, I can assure you the single coils won't get used often. The humbuckers just sound like thunder. I've never seen my bandmates smile so much when hitting a low B. Plus if I'm going to have single coil tone, I prefer it to sound like an actual jazz bass. I will be using the singles a bit in combination with the others if I need to cut the mix but otherwise the lowend muscle of the buckers are truly intoxicating.
