Time for my new stunning 55-94! It was built with rare Walnut Burl top on Mahogany body. Also with Ebony fretboard and custom built thumb rest.

Someone remind me, if the pickup wires in Old Joe are cloth covered, are they Aero's or Fralin's

Okay, we need details on the thumb rest, that is really quite intriguing.
Like I said, couldn't really tell, but even for higher action they seem a little, well, 'high.'
10-4. I had some scratchy pots so I decided to deox them, and noticed the cloth on the wires.
Wow! That walnut 55-94 is crazy! Mahogany, ebony, and Hanson pickups utterly destroy! (I happen to know from experience!;-) Congrats!

This is one of the first 5 string basses that Dan ever made. SN 5076. It's a 55-94, from 1996-1997. I am the original owner, it was made for me.
The truss rod broke recently (which happened to most of the early models, because they had not perfected the heat treatment of the truss rod J joint in the first year). The repair (done by Lakland in Chicago in 2012) consisted of adding a first fret Dot (where they drilled thru the neck and corrected the problem).
The BEST part, was that, consistent with Lakland's awesome reputation and quality, they did all of this repair and setup for FREE - calling it an original manufacturing defect (from oh so many years ago...)
I own many Lakland basses, and I'm never, ever going to stop playing them, and owning them, because of their exceptional dedication to quality and customer service.

I agree. I don't care much for basses that look like giant violins. Different strokes for different folks, but I'd like to see a color option or two for this model.

how heavy is it? Mahogany can be a bit heavy.....
