Just got a Skyline hollowbody last week - the neck is great, I like how punchy the bridge pickup is, and it really blends well with other instruments, whether recording or playing live. It came with some well-aged LaBella flats, too.

Put a 55-60 Fretless on layaway at the LGS today. Played great, felt great. Wasn't looking for a Jazz bass, but saw the ad for it online, and went and tried it out. I really liked it.

Couple questions.

The one I played had bartolini pickups, online, it doesn't look like these were standard, is that true?

Anyone have one and care to comment on it?

I haven't been able to find much info on these...

Am I stupid to get/not get it for 7 bills?

Congrats! $700 is a very good price for a 55-60, especially a fretless one (they're pretty rare). Barts have never been stock on those. Fralins were stock until late '06/early '07 when the switch was made to in-house Hanson pickups.

Edit: The year of manufacture for a Skyline, by the way, is indicated by the first two digits of the serial number. The second pair indicates the month.

I'll be watchin' too, but I can tell you you're going to have a hard time moving it at that price. Maybe you'll get someone to respect the improvement, but we both know that's not very likely.

I have one with an ebony fretboard and love it...

After playing this bass, I can assure you the single coils won't get used often. The humbuckers just sound like thunder. I've never seen my bandmates smile so much when hitting a low B. Plus if I'm going to have single coil tone, I prefer it to sound like an actual jazz bass. I will be using the singles a bit in combination with the others if I need to cut the mix but otherwise the lowend muscle of the buckers are truly intoxicating.

Yeah, I don't know. Just super sensitive to the XL scale. (Admittingly, I've only played a really 55-94 for a few minutes, so a Lakie 35" may fell way different.....but I owned a few MTDs which were killer, but my little r-rex hands didn't like it!) This bass though Friend....is out of sight! Just Purrrfect (for me)
