Is there a certain split P by Fralin or SD that scoops mids more than others? They really don't say on their site....


I ask because I'm going to buy a used 44-64 and it has Neo punch....but I like less mid sound, I don't know if that means vintage sound or that I just like less mid...

Lakland said they still offer vintage P pickup has anyone used that one here?

I put some classic Bart pups in a p-bass once, they sounded pretty good, and were definitely less mid forward than the Neo's

A lot of it is the Ampeg and the TI's for sure though. I think any good pickup will get me there for the most part. The strings alone are so much of what I like.

The sound in my head isn't so exact anyway. If I find a bass tone I'm happy with. I mostly just leave it alone. I do bet there are other pickups I could be even more satisfied with. I don't think I will go in search of better, at least not for now. It is usually such a struggle to get perfect tone. And then I always think something else will be better. Sure that sounds familiar.

On the good side of everything, I am really enjoying the Lakland. This is the first one I have ever seen other than pictures.

Sure, this bass was something I had talked to Carl Pedigo about building almost 2 years ago and just got now. Although he still does plenty of things for Lakland, he also has his own brand of basses, which are modified Laklands. Seems he'll do things that are slightly outside of the asthetic of Lakland's vision, most notably for me, a 34" Lakland 5 string. The low B String is still phenomenal and the neck is a bit thinner it seems from Lakland's neck profile. The specs are:

I got her 2 days ago, but had to go straight to work after I picked her up. Yesterday I played togethed acoustically for 2 hours. Today...I plugged her in. Lost 3 hours. Have no idea where the time went.
