Lakland Owners Group #69

I should also mention that I got Doude Waved on Friday! The Doude was in town on business and we ended up meeting for some sushi and drinks. What a great guy...I was pretty bummed that there wasn't any frumpy shorts, though.

Thanks man....you an Caleb were super cool!

I cannot wait to come check out the place once it is open....

I had some "sushi" issues later that night and ended up with a cold/flu thing over the weekend but Friday was a blast!

I have DR Hi Beams on my 55-01. Sometimes I wish I had flats on it, like on almost all my other basses, but I gotta have at least one bass with rounds on it.

I am the opposite....actually, I have 3 basses with flats right now....oh the humanity!!!

I have Marcus Millers on my 55-07 and love them...Lakland SS on my Carlo (pretty much a semi-custom 55-94)

Just got a call from the Bass Doctor. After 660 days of waiting, my baby will finally be here! Now the question is: do I head there tomorrow or wait until Saturday when I typically go to see Carl, because things are chill and I don't want to rush the experience? Who am I kidding? I don't have the will power for that sort of thing. Plus, I kinda want the bass before thursday so I can practice with it! Hmmm...

wowsa!!! man...I cannot wait to see that.....and...oh...DIBS..... :D

I have not played it or seen it put together BUT I know I would love it....

Those are all shankworthy! Can't wait to see them. I have a 78 Ovation Magnum 1 that's going to Marty for a full Brilliant Emerald Green Sparkle. Gonna snazzy up the ugly duckling of the bass world.

ahhhh.....Lee...That IS Randy's bass...the guy I was telling you about....

We need to get you a wide white belt and you will be all set.....(older LOGgers will understand)...

Ok. So the skinny on this is 2 things. Miscommunication and Wood Supply. Carl is a perfectionist when it comes to wanting to make an instrument perfect for you, which I totally have to commend him for. So he wanted to make sure he could find wood first before we really got into it. I wanted mahogany. He didn't think he could find a piece resulting in less than an 11lb. bass. He said he'll keep his eyes out. The whole project in general was pretty lax, but I was apprently too lax, because after 7 months he took my lack of communication to mean I wasn't interested (while I really didn't want to be "that" guy during a custom build, bothering every 3 days for developments and photos.) Anyways, I reassured him I was in, but mahogany met to his specs was not becoming available. Then after a while we decided to do alder because this was too hard. 4 months later he calls on new years eve and says the body is done, and nonchalantly says that the fantastic flame top will look great on this mahogany body. Threw me for a loop, but I was excited! Funny thing was that he said a few pieces of mahogany had come up just then but for all that time, there was nothing. 6 weeks later it was painted. The neck still had to be finished. And that brings us to today. Lost over a year before the ball really got going. The wait is almost approaching that of what I remember Fodera and MTD being at the time I inquired. I don't care. Call it Chicago pride, LOG obsession, or just that Carl is one of the most interesting people I've ever met, but I just know this bass will be so special!

knowing Carl as well as I do NOTHING about that story surprises me....and your last lines are ALL right on point...

Got the official call to meet Carl at the shop and pick up the bass at 5:30.
"I donno Man, I just don't think I can sell her to you. I love her too much. It's like sell'in one of your own children, y'know?" :-/

"Carl.....After this long, after all this time, this is happening!!!"

".....I Know......" :-)

:-)

wahoo!!!!!

I cannot wait to see pics!!!!

You SHOULD be playing it by now.... (7:40)... :hyper: :bassist:

you got a good deal....congrats! (BTW $825 to $850 still would have been a decent deal!...but DON'T get any ideas about flipping it....:eyebrow:)

I really didn't buy it to resell at all! I would have to hate it to do that and I don't see that happening. It has a thin neck, and binding, and block inlays and everything. Low action. And most important, It's RED!! Seriously, I can hardly wait to see it.

......You were right! This bass is unbelievable. I'm sorry my thoughts are not deeper. It was quite a trek to the city and now straight off to work when I should be playing her. Don't worry, proper introductions will come soon.

With the high feebay fees and paypal fees, someone would need to have grabbed a bass here for quite a deal in order to justify the hassles involved. Turning a decent profit would be tricky.

Wow... I haven't even chimed in once in this whole thread?

Anyway, I offered the dude with the SFG more than that when it was posted here and he refused. It a cool bass, but it's not worth what he's asking or what he paid for it. The dude selling the Mai Tai does that all the time, he buys it here cheap and tries to sell it for a bunch on ebay. He is the same guy who got my gold JO back int he day.
