If your are handy with tools and wood working, and have the proper tools, you can do it yourself.

That being said, I would send the body to Lakland and have them mount the neck.

Why?

When pleking, if there is even a 1mm difference in the depth of your neck cavity route vs the routed jig that they use for pleking, the nut slots can be too high and cause action that just doesn't feel right or too low and cause fret out.

I bought a neck from them and the latter happened to me, the nut was cut too shallow and it caused fretout. Luckily, I do ok with wood and fixing guitars, I used baking soda and epoxy to add a small layer of material the the culprit slot.

Don't try to be a hero unless you are absolutely sure you can do it...then reconsider again.

My new 44-64... Was looking to replicate a Roger Waters tone with an jazz neck, blocks, and bridge pup, (for other tonal options of course). Well, this Lakland nailed it, and in spades. I couldn't be happier. The bass came setup flawlessly with perfect neck relief and exact 2mm action across the board. Easily brought the G down to 1mm and so-on w/no issues whatsoever. I'd say a pretty sweet deal from Sweetwater...

Hi all! I am in need of a USA 5 string neck.

I have a solid rosewood Lakland 5 -string bass that was custom built for Jake Willemain (Clint Black) that came to me without a neck.

At various times while in my possession, the bass has had a rosewood Skyline neck, a rosewood 55-94 neck (borrowed from my green profile pic bass), and currently, a maple Skyline neck on it

But recently I've decided to try to put it back together again with all USA parts.

It is of course a “used” instrument, so a neck in less than perfect shape would be more than acceptable match.

I've contacted Lakland and they will sell me a new B-stock neck at a reasonable price, but this bass is pretty much just going to sit in its case and not get played - so I don't know that spending the money for a new neck is worth it.

And thus I may just leave the maple Skyline neck on it.

Unless I can find a USA 5 string neck from one of you... anybody have one "surplus to needs"? :laugh:

hi, another recording comparison I did with a 55-01 that was modified by a good friend of mine before he sold it to me.
actually 2 good fiends of mine, i met through TB
2 different basses, form 0 to 0:15 was the lakland P with alumitone, and Fender Flats, then 0:16 to 0:30 Tokay Pbass with bill lawrence pickups and Thomastik flats, 0:30 to 0:41 lakland and the tokai till the end.
not fair since the strings are not the same, but an idea.

Guys I need wiring help with Chi-Sonics.

I picked up a used Skyline with Chi-Sonics and an un-wired stacked knob control plate. I have no diagrams or instructions with regards to the pups and how to have these controls wired.

Neck pup - Red, Black, White wires
Bridge pup - Green, Black, White wires

HELP PLEASE! I emailed Lakland and Hanson for help but.....that didn't go so well.

Hook up one pickup with the black to ground amd either red or green, depending on which pickup it is, to the pot tab. Then conmect the white to the ground. If it works, keep it connected to the ground. If it doesn't, switch the white to the tab. Its either or.

Also, these pups may need to be wired out of phase.. if so, just swap the location of the hot amd ground on one of the pups.

I've had GREAT experiences with Marty Bell. 3x faster, 50% of the cost.

I posted about gasing for a 55-01 but it hasn't got any traction so far. I'll ask here.

This bass is on my radar. I want to jump into the 5-string world. I like what I have read about the 35" scale and the low B. The 01 models have Bartolini pickups and eq and the 02 has Lakland. I don't see a lot of difference outside of that, but the 02 is $400-ish more. What am I missing there?
