Pat is awesome. He redid a Sadowsky for me last summer and I couldn't speak more highly of him (the green Sadowsky in my avatar used to be natural wood with a black PG and a vintage tint neck). Check the Sadowsky owners thread as my stuff and a few other guys have posted before and after photos. Rest very easy that you will get what you want via a phone call with him.

Another vote for Pat. I've refinished two Laklands with him, and I have a third that someone else used him for. Excellent paint shop.

Has anyone had luck stripping and repainting their skylines? I'd love to see photos of refin-ned lakies, whether you did it or paid someone else to do it, and anything you can say on the process. Contemplating stripping my newest one, but I'm not heard of too many people doing it.

Can you buy a replacement neck for a 55-01? Just curious.... I have a maple neck now on my 55-01 but would like to purchase a rosewood neck.

Yes you can....in some cases, the screw holes may not line up exactly and may have to be modified.

Thats part of the tone module for the older style Bart Pre's, but that looks bigger than it should. Is there something on top of it?. They did away with those about a year ago.

Below is a pic of the pre in my 55-02, I guess the tone module is bigger than I remember. Yours looks to be normal.

If you switched to a newer Bart pre, that module would not be there. Its integrated into the main module now.

I've actually been very disappointed with Pat Wilkins...through about...4 or 5 separate occasions. I think Lakland has been unhappy with him, too. (I had Leo ask me to recommend some other painters at one point...when he delivered a bass that came back from Pat with a poor job on the finish)

I've had GREAT experiences with Marty Bell. 3x faster, 50% of the cost.

I recorded a quick video with my phone this morning, and at this point a don't know anymore, in the video it doesent sound too bad, but live, the volume gets way louder when i boost the 3 band all the way up, and the volume goes down when i cut all the way.
this is not my first active bass, that is why I was not sure, but now that I'm listening to the video it doesn't seem that bad.

Oh man! The first negative I've ever heard for Pat. Maybe it was all the glitter you wanted?

Thats totally normal, an active pre gives you the ability to boost and cut your eq. Thats the point. IMO, you should start with everything at 0, i.e. in the center detent and then slightly boost or cut the needed band according to the venue, song or band. Think of it as a fine tuning feature for your sound once you have your amp set how you like it. Your pre seems to be functionally normally...Keep in mind that your boost/cut is as below:

Bass=+/-15dB @ 30Hz
Mid=+/-13dB @ 250, 500, 800Hz
Treble=+/-16dB @ 10kHz

I use mine for small adjustments and keep it at 0 most of the time.

Haha!! I was going to mention that! You got me there. Marty can do big flake finishes, Pat cannot. Pat did a small flake purple finish for one of my US Laklands that I really like.

Yes , you can. I did that with my 55-01. Sent it to Leo and had them replace the stock neck with a fretless one.

I didn't inquire about a direct sale. I went ahead and shipped the body (no neck) to Lakland for installation.
