Thank you! I am a sucker for gold hardware. There is something about the black headstock with the uncluttered ebony board and the gold hardware that drew me in! In person the top is so rich and detailed and chocolatey. It has affectionately earned the nickname, Chocolate Thunder.

I posted this over on the LOG too, but figured I'd post here too

Hello all,

So I did a search and found a few things, but I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the following set ups in a 55-94D (cherry burst w/maple board).

Either:

Bartolini, with classic bass series 59CBJD-LN1 hc jazz in the neck, DL52CBJD3 quad coil MM in the bridge and a 5.2AP 3 band pre with a push pull mid shift and active/passive on the volume pot

or

Nordstrand, with a NJ5S hc jazz in the neck, MM5.4 quad coil MM in the bridge and a 3b-5a 3 band pre with a push pull mid shift and active passive on the volume pot as well.

I asked a tb'er who is selling a bass with the Bart set up, he gave it a good review. I am looking for clarity, versatility and punch/cut.

Just polished up and oiled the 55-02 fretless. Cleaned up pretty well!

Hello, guys I just got a 44-02 with barts, I noticed the volume is way too loud when in active, I know there is an internal vol.
my question is, what is the preference or standard for this, do most people match the passive and active volumes, or what is the point of increasing the volume when active?

The only "potential issue" might be causing distortion if you tweak it too high.

If you are trying to match the passive volume, you would have to cut it back quite a bit....may cause noise when you crank the volume in active mode.

the volume was to high and it was causing distortion, so I lowered it and it is a bit higher than passive but still not clean, do I need to tweak it until i feel it sounds good, or is there a standard setting?

Something is wrong with the preamp...check the battery. If it's dead and you replace it, then it goes dead over night, you have a short draining it. If that's not it, then it sounds like a a bad pre or botched install.
