I switched out the stock knobs on my 55-94 for ones made of rosewood - I like them better.

does anyone string their 5's with Thomastick SuperAlloys or Jazz Flats?
I have a set coming for my 55-60, but the B string has a gauge of .125, which is a touch undersized compared to other sets.
Will the 35" be enough to even out the tension? Should I string the B through body and the rest through bridge to add a bit more tension?
Any suggestions?
(I'm not a 5 stringer, I just play one on tv)

I played TI Jazz Flats on my Fender Jazz V. They were top loaded as I understand that flats do not like the sharp angle over the bridge saddle that is introduced with the string through option. The tension and tone were fine. If you have a personal preference for higher tension, these may not be the best choice.
I did just buy a set of Sadowsky Black Label Flats which I have yet to install. I can't decide which bass to put them on!

I like loooow tension with looow action. I prefer my basses to be able to play themselves.
I use SuperAlloys on all my other basses, so it was a default reaction to snag a 5string set without looking at gauges.
But the steel strings on this bass right now are too high tension (and clanky/bright/modern) for me.
Now if only BassStringsOnline could ship stuff sooner.
Dunlop Super Brights are the best I've found for a single string solution for all of my basses, 4, 5 and 6 strings. Low tension and long lasting.

Hi all, I'm looking for a 44-64 Custom P/J in Black. Wanting to trade my minty 44-02. The bass sounds and plays flawlessly. I can get a pure P-tone from the solo neck pup. But alas, I want the smaller body style of the 44-64.

~8.5lb +/- 0.5lb
Lakland LH3 preamp and electronics
Gloss black finish
Rosewood board
Flat sawn maple neck with Carl Pedigo neck treatment
Strung with Kalium rounds

Another DJ 5 question while I patiently wait for mine.....for stringing through the body do 'long scale' strings work or is it recommended to get 'extra long scale' for best fit? Thanks y'all.
Depends on the string manufacturers specifications. IIRC Ernie Ball and DR standard length can go through the body without issue. Dunlop standards have to go through the bridge.

I've been considering the Dunlops.....I tried a set when they first came out and liked them. The price is nice too! I'm a through body fan though so maybe I'll stay with D'Addarios.
That's a LOT nicer looking out in the wild than it was on SW's site. I wasn't the biggest fan of the black and gold hardware on there, but seeing it now... hmmm... and that top is gorgeous. nice pick up!
