Couple questions for those who know:
I'm planning on putting Infield SuperAlloys on it, as they have great tension to price ratio (low tension for a low price). Can anyone suggest strings that might be lower price with similar or lower tension?
And a previous owner drilled another strap hole and I kinda wanna fill it with superglue then sand it back down. Is that what you would recommend?

I too like low tension strings... I use DR Sunbeams which are relatively low tension and sound great. I even use light gauge. Some folks think you need a big, fat, high tension B string but I do not. At half the price of the Infelds, they are worth a shot.I'm back, baby!!

I have no experience using superglue to fix a hole but I think it could mess up any finished surface it happens to come in contact with so be careful.

I've not done exactly what you're looking to do, but ive had great success using word glue and toothpicks to fill stripped strap holes. In your case, as you'll likely see the end result, I'd suggest buying a small block of ash, sand it down to get plenty of dust, and mix that with the wood glue. That way, the repair should match the shade of the bass decently well. In this case, using clear wood glue is ideal. As the hole won't be redrilled, you may be able to get away without using any toothpicks to fill the hole

The serial number starts with the date... for example 08XXXXX would be a 2008. Incidentally that is the year they moved production to Indonesia and I believe the move to the Hanson pickups was not long before that. Someone more in the know will chime in.
Correct on the Indonesia move, though it bears repeating that Cort closed its Korean factory so Lakland had no choice.
The switch to Hanson was gradual. 05-06 for the LH-3 system, 06-07 for the jazz pickups (both DJs and JOs), and 07-08 for the P pickups. And 08 for Chisonics in the Decade and hollowbody
I have a 1997 55-94 that I have hundreds of gigs and thousands of hours of play time with. I would like to get a 55-02 to use as a back up/alternative. What are the similarities and differences between the two?
same pickups (if your '94 has Lakland/Hansons), and probably same LH-3 preamp. If your '94 has Barts or other variant, then there's that difference.
differences will be in fit/finish, a semi gloss neck versus the wax/oil neck of the US, not sure about graphite in the neck for the 5-string Skyline (I seem to remember 5 string Skylines have the graphite rods, 4-strings do not).
But playability should be much the same, and I would recommend a 55-02 as a backup to any US 55-94.

The neck on the Laklands was the main factor for me to let go of my Sire V7, for a 55-02.
I do enjoy my Sire but I'm a fan of 35" scale for a 5 string. I've been a Lakland fan for a long time, just never pulled the string. I've also wanted a good, solid passive bass for a while now. The Lakland seemed right.
Me too..lol. Kinda cool story, way back in the early 90's I had a transition Music man and needed a set up really bad. Went to my local GC and the sales guy referred me to a tech he knew. I went by the guys shop, turned out it was Hugh McFarland. I went to him until ke committed to Lakland full time.
My DJ5 is the reason I'm letting my 55-02 and Duck Dunn go...since getting the DJ5 almost a year and a half ago, they just don't get played.
Not fuel the gas, but that 55-02 is the nicest one I've played. The feel is just about there with a 55-94. The action is unusally low and comfortable with no buzzing and little fret wear.
Only selling it for two reasons:
- I haven't gigged it in over a year
- I want a three tone sunburst with a rosewood neck.
