About only thing new I see at NAMM Is a limited run of Skyline in this cool ice blue finish. Very pretty, with unique and beautiful abalone fret markers. Check it out.

I like it... but... everywhere I want a black Pickguard, they put white....
Those fret markers are very unique!
I like the pearl with Abalone offsets....interesting.
Is there any chance you know what the price will be? Also what models are they available in and if rosewood would be an option?
If it follows Lakland's previous special runs of Skyline basses, what you saw in holdsg's picture is all they'll offer this round. Price? $1200-1500 would be my guess.
I liked that the Gallien Kreuger NAMM booth had Lakland's plugged into their amps.
Ha! Couple hours last night with spalty. Mostly unplugged since the jam room has turned into more of a fam room.
Gorgeous bass! The spalted maple top has lots of character. And it blended nice on the edges so it doesn't look like melted cheese on top of a burger. Really nice grain in the maple fretboard as well. And she is super light at 8 lbs 10 oz!
Forgot how much I missed the wide ranges of tones that the 55-02 can put out. Love the versatility. And I missed the 10-13" compound radius. Knobs were pushed on way too far, which made them too tight as they were hugging the top. (Couldn't feel the center detent for those that have one.) Pulled them up a bit and it's all good.
Only a few minutes this morning before Saturday errands kicked in. Probably changing stock strings to ye old trusty DR Fat Beams (maybe Hi Beams) with which I have a full-grown fondness. (or I may just rock the stocks) Install Dunlop Dual Design strap buttons taht came in last night. Couple new tunes for tomorrow, so will get some more time a little later today. Then first gig tomorrow morning for 2 services.
First laundry, then practice with the amplug. Stoked!
I have an '08 55-02, fretless, made in Korea. The body is black ... can anyone tell me what the body wood would be ?
Also, I have a '10 55-02 fretted, Indonesian made. Body is natural and looks like Ash to me ... is that likely to be the same wood as the other bass ?

Some follow up and first gig:
Changed the strings to DR Fat Beams and installed the Dunlop strap buttons. Played most of the afternoon and up until bed. Felt like home! Not much of a tweaker, so the coil tap is just the right juju to change tones enough depending on the tune. Back in love with the 55-02, especially this 55-02.
Been wanting a spalted maple top bass for the last 10 years. Been watching these as they pop up here and there, but need to get the lightest I can. I just had to jump on this one and glad I did!
Gigged it today for the first time. Sound guy at church is really picky. No surprise right, he's a sound guy! Don't blame him though. With a piano, 2 keyboards, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, full orchestra, and full choir, there's a lot of competition for sonic space. I talked to him before soundcheck and let him know I was playing a new bass and the output was set hotter than my Kingston AG5. After the first service he tells me that he hopes I play this bass from now on. (Rare to have a conversation.) He thought the MTD is too 'wide' with all the competing sounds and I agreed. He said the 55-02 sat nicely in the mix but still cut just right. He could tell when I flipped the coil tap from 60's to dual, but said it was still tight and fit nicely. He was able to bring me up more in the house.
I had a great time and thought it sounded good on stage too. Man, been away from the 55-02 too long! Fully stoked!
As some of you know, I have a 55-60 fretless with an LH3 preamp. This bass was custom built for Leo Lopez (of Lakland) as a fretted bass with an ebony neck...I had the master (Carl Pedigo) defret it a couple of years ago and he put in killer BEM lines!
Anyways...Leo had Lakland nickels on it...They sounded great when the bass was fretted but for some reason, I did not like the sound once I had it converted to fretless...something was missing...could not put my finger on it....
Friday I decided to put a set of D'Addario Pro Steels (45/65/85/105/135) on it that I had just sitting around...and oh man!
I put them on Friday night about 8 PM...tuned them up and played for about 2 hours...they never went out of tune!
I picked it back up about 7 PM Saturday night for self-practice and 3 out of the 5 strings were still in tune!
I took it to church today and did a mix of songs that needed mwah and those that didn't and this bass did an excellent case of sounding fretted or fretless as I wanted it to and the glissandos were amazing!
The mwah was much more pronounced as well.
overall, it sits much better in the mix as well...
Yes the strings are described as "super bright" Maybe that was what was needed!
If the band leader shares some clips, I will post them.
I always liked this bass....like it much more now!

Yes - I need a better neck rest...I know! I had to improvise!
