Lakland Owners Group #69

To quote a well known infamous pop diva..."Oops, I did it again!" added another Lakland to the stable...

The shim is the deal.
Although the 55-01 is considered a value model they still cost about the same as an american Fender or G&L.
That may have been true at one time, but not now. A new 55-01 runs $899, while the cheapest Fender MIA 5 string is $1599, and G&L fives appear to be similarly priced.

My special JO5. The previous owner had it routed for a preamp and side jack. It has an Aguilar preamp and Fender SCN pickups. I added the maple fretboard neck.

Nice maple fretboard! :)

Here's my 55-60 with a newly-swapped rosewood fretboard at a St. Paddy's Day gig...

Here's a quick recording of my Lakland DJ5. The pickups sound really good. Plenty of vintage jazz single coil goodness oozing from those pups. Recorded straight into an Apogee duet, through a noble di and FEA labs DE-CL.

Ya? You like it? What would you compare it to?
I was thinking that the dark star would brighten up the p/u placement since my original 73 Fender Tele is such a muddy monster (which I love) but want something a little more useable for most applications.

I have a Chisonic humbucker in my Packer Bass (5564) and love it....I can switch it between single and double coils....

I usually leave it is double coil all of the time...

I've never played a darkstar so I can't compare them...

Hi! Long time US Hollowbody owner, first time poster....

I just placed an order for a Custom 44-51. It will have the pickup placed at the neck like a 70's Tele Bass. Trying to decide on a Novak recreation of the Fender Humbucker that came on those or a BiSonic/Dark Star. Any suggestions?
I'd go bisonic. I have a DS in that position in my frankenbass and it sounds great.

If you're worried about hum go with a chisonic humbucker but make sure you have a switch so you can have the single coil too.
