I rehearsed with my band so I got a few hours of good use so far. Nothing I am going to say is news here but it's a new bass day so I'm obligated. :)

She looks great. Construction, fit, and finish are all top notch per the usual for Lakland. Bird's eye inlays and reverse tuners? I had no idea! :D It's an '08 so it has plenty of scratches here and there but otherwise it's in good condition. I was pleased to find it's light, closer to 8 lbs.

Ergonomics. :cautious: I assumed the shape would be awkward on a strap and it is. That was also mentioned/alluded to here so, no surprise I guess. It's not earth shattering but it's certainly not ideal. Sans the neck, it feels a little like a Ric. :eek: I could get past the short (with respect to Fender) upper horn much more easily if the bridge was mounted an inch or two closer to the edge of the body and the neck/pickups brought in accordingly. This bass is not going anywhere however, if I decide I can't live with the instrument in the future, left hand in the first position will be why.

Sound. :) A lot of you folks know all about the chi-sonics but I've never used them before. Wow! :woot: I wanted a big funky sound and I found it. The pickups are pretty noisy solo'd but have huge dynamic range. I'm certain those things are related. Big dynamics was the most challenging thing to get over when I first started playing it. It's very touchy and my playing technique was all sorts of exposed but so far, that is one of my favorite things about it. Just banging on it like I do with my Fenders will not work here. This bass needs some degree of finesse a lot of the time. Oh and I rarely play with a pick but when I did, she whispered in my ear - "go buy more picks, you will need them" :D

This ended up being a 40th bday present from my wife so needless to say, I am extremely happy. My two year old approves as well. Dada, bass! :smug:

Yeah, possibly even better. I have seen a few skylines and they are very high quality. I believe they also plek and touch up the frets on the skylines in Chicago :thumbsup:

IF I remember correctly- Skyline’s get plek’d and then cleaned up, US Models are all done by hand.

Seeing dozens of G&L Tribuetes and Skylines side by side, the quality of the Skylines is significantly higher... and the G&L Tributes are pretty darn good to start with... (and I don’t think there’s a Geezer Skyline model... is there?)

Looks like you are right, the skyline 44-64 standard would be the closest thing.

Nice! That is a beauty. Glad you are (mostly) digging it. Just play up the neck more.;) Seriously, though, with Chis and Dark Stars, I find even the high notes have a nice heft to them.

Thanks Greg! You are absolutely right and it sounds so good in the upper registers. Cool basses, those Decades are. Also, thanks again for taking the time to chat about them a bit. :)

I seem to remember a year or 2 back that someone had a Lakland Hollow Body that was factory modded with a standard Lakland neck... or it was a custom neck with a standar 4 in line headstock. Black.... Black headstock.

Does anyone else remember this? Does anyone know the story?

I put money down on my first Lakland today, a made in USA used J-sonic. I'm going to try to pick it up tomorrow if I can. I Have a gig out of state this weekend. If I don't get to grab it tomorrow, I'll do it when I get back in town. A Photo will follow. :D
