The Lakland 44-01 is a great bass for the money. They have wonderful necks, good electronics, and a great sound. If you're looking to try a Lakland, and don't want to break the bank, I recommend picking one of them up.

Agreed, just picked one up even though, up until now, I exclusively played US models.

Yeah actually part of the attraction to the 44-01 is the ease of swapping things in and out. It seems like a really good platform to start from if you want to put in your own pickups and/or preamp. I've looked at a few people swapping in Nordstrand or EMG pups with good results.

I'm in with my first ever Lakland... A brand new 55-14. I got it a week and a half ago, but just installed the pickguard today. I've already played four gigs with it, and it's really quite an amazing bass. It feels and sounds incredible.View attachment 410326

Thanks! I'm loving it so far. I had a hard time choosing between the ash/maple model and one of the alder/rosewood models. I went with the alder/rosewood just because I preferred this color combo. I added the pickguard to make the bass more eye-catching. My only experience with a 55-94 is from playing some at a music store. But from what I can tell, the 55-14 is every bit the same quality as the 55-94.

Exact same bass.....just limited colors and no options etc to keep the cost down.

Love the limited edition transparent blue finish and those custom pup covers....I really wanted a 5501 in that but could never find one light enough for my taste. Nice score!

Well I guess I can finally be part of the family. I bought this beauty from a fellow tb'er here. It's modded with full Nordy big splits and nordstrand pre. Also ordered some knobs that I think will look real good on it.
