Just sat on the plane in the UK waiting to take off for NAMM so thought I’d post the new 44-64.

It came yesterday typically, so I’ve had a couple of hours with it before flying, not plugged it in yet. Set up and strung at factory with La Bella 760FS flats, and bearing in mind it’s been on a plane and sat in customs for 11 days, it plays beautifully!

Essentially I wanted a like for like replacement (to retire) my ‘71 Fender Precision....but with a ‘C’ width neck, so this hits every marker! Brian and everyone at Lakland have been brilliant as usual. Already planning a 55-64 for 2020

Which preamp is it- bart on LH3?

Just bringing these two back together as I was confused.

Unlike the Bartolini pre, the LH-3 doesn't have a gain trim as far as I'm aware. I haven't seen one in the cavity if there is one nor have I seen reference to that ability in any of the user information either here or on Lakland.com.

Both the 55-02s that I owned had the LH-3 pre and there was a gain trim in the cavity.

Do you have a pic or documentation of where it is? I just looked through it again prior to responding, along with looking through the Lakland LH-3 documentation and I can neither find it in the cavity or any reference to it in the documentation.

EDIT: Added cavity pics. (is the trim pot the item in R19? I don't have a magnifying glass to tell if that is a super tiny trim pot)

Likewise, I found reference to a trim pot but the picture link is dead.

I just found that as well and it does not appear I have the trim on my Pre. At least not where it's supposed to be according to this diagram.

Ok. I stand corrected, @CTC564. First, I magnified the photo, found a tiny Philips head screw driver and figured out it IS a tiny trim pot in the R19 slot. The screw driver I'd tried previously was too big so it wasn't doing anything. It's very sensitive so it took a little tweaking to find the appropriate comparative level (as it appears it rotates freely through the range and starts over if going to far in either direction).

So, for future reference, it is a tiny trim pot in the R19 slot right under the "L" in the LH-3 name.

Glad you got that solved. It is tiny- I tried zooming in with my iphone and it was having a difficult time with it.

The amp is a GB Streamliner 900. I drilled a rack shelf, measured for and bought some longer screws, and anchored the amp to the shelf via the amp feet holes.

And, more than a few musicians have enquired about the empty space in my SKB case. Most think I’m off in the head until I show them how my pedalboard fits perfectly in there, below the amp. And the extra space around the amp (beside, behind, and above) is where I stuff two leather straps and 2 heavy duty speakons. Btw, my pedalboard is visible is one of the pics.

It’s a board I made out of wood. 2 DC Bricks secured under the front end, with power wires running up through holes. It’s not the lightest, prettiest, or neatest but I like making my own, and it fits in my case. I recently sold my vintage gigantic big muff Pi and bought the MXR Chorus, line6 wireless, and bass big muff. My Keeley Compressor and BBE Sonic Stomp stay on all the time. I rarely use the wah, small stone, and muff. And, the ABY is just there for when I need to run two rigs. I haven’t decided which chorus is the best. It will be hard to beat the Carl Martin! Chorus and delay get used frequently is the songs where I mimic cello and keys. And they both sound amazing with the Gizmotron 2.0 which I have not gigged with yet.... need more practice!

That is an intense pedal board! Do you ever find the delay difficult to use? I’ve never even tried one on bass guitar for myself, but in all my experiences recording bands and doing audio production in general, delay on low frequency ranges gets very unmusical quickly unless its a very staccato stab synced to the tempo of a song, and doesn’t spill over into the next note/chord.

Yes, I don’t use it much but the way it’s set now, combined with chorus, sounds fantastic when I’m pretending to be the cello.... like in the song Shimmer by Fuel. I do chords too during those parts to try to get all the string section covered. It’s a blast!

They change the mid-range frequency that is adjusted by the mid-range knob...

I'm no expert by any means...I leave mine as is...

I know others like varying frequencies to sweep or adjust

Here is the new addition on the left, 44-94. The first lakland on the right, a 44-02. Some thoughts in no particular order.

1. The 44-02 was a gateway drug and slippery slope. I had it for less than 3 months before I bought the 44-94.

2. They sound nearly identical. The only real difference is in the strings, which are different.

3. In a weird way, each bass makes the other seem slightly inferior. I have been treating the 44-94 with white glove service basically, because I’ve been unsure about keeping it and wanted to keep it in new condition with no even swirl marks on it in case I decided to send it back. As such I haven’t messed with the action. The 44-02 is dialed in. The 44-02 plays faster and nicer with lower action. The 44-94 just feels nicer, even if it’s slower right this second. I pick up the 44-02 after playing the 44-94 and it’s like, “wow, this feels a little more hobbyist”. I pick up the 44-94 after playing the 44-02 and it’s like “wow, this is kind of a struggle to play in comparison”. Very paradoxical.
