Hi folks, sitting in a pub in London watching French Open. I think that's about as cool as it gets.
My new science project......
Bought a 5501 from TBer ModulusAcacia, who owns J. Kennedy Guitar Repair. It's a nat/rw under 9 lbs........he is gonna have Pat Wilkins paint the body and headstock Cleveland Browns orange (I'm no fan of the team, just the color), then I asked him to replace the stock pups with Lace Alumitones, wire it passively and swap the knobs for aluminum.....all of which will drop the weight about another pound (no battery, no pre, and the new pups are much lighter). The Alumitones will completely change the tone as well......it will be a looong wait, but come mid-summer I'll report the results.
On another note, I was struck again last night how different my 5594 sounds in the band context from when I play alone. When it's just me, it sounds warm and full but I can't seem to get a mid forward tone that punches......but with the band, all controls flat save a few degrees of mid bump, she cuts like a scimitar Essentially the same rig (home=SMax 9.2/ shuttle 2 112, band practice room Shuttle 2 210T combo).

Guess I should also mention that since the Sea Monster arrived in January, I've used it for 95+% of my play time and have been almost entirely cured of any GAS symptoms. I've taken the US Glaub and the DJ4 out of their cases for one rehearsal each. I really should sell the Glaub and/or the US Duck Dunn, but I can't seem to bring myself to do it!

May I join the club ? Just acquired 2012 55-02 MII yesterday, been happy so far. Only strange thing is the vol pot's turn is very light mush like a broken pot but it works OK. Is this normal ?

Received my 5502 today...man this thing is nice! It's all about what works for you. Reason I say that is because I owned a early 90's 5594 with the smaller Bart's. To me, this 5502 is much more comfortable to play than the 5594. The Lakland tone is still there with a lil more bite from the Hanson pups and pre....which I like. Ok, enough talking bass, time to go play some more!
The small Bart 55-94s are supposedly highly sought after. I haven't played one but don't know if I'd like the bridge pup thumb anchor point being so close to the B string.
Yeah, the smaller Bart's also suppose to "spank" harder too! I didn't have a problem with the thumb anchor.
