Thanks for the comment. No effects. Amp set flat. Mids and lows boosted just a little on the bass. The "effect" is from compression or limiting pumping on the recorder. ( a Go Pro camera).

Hey guys. I need a little advice on a Lakland I may be acquiring. Its a 55-94 Deluxe in cherry burst and a maple neck.. The serial number is 5568 so it dates to 1999 I believe. Its in really good condition, a few nicks here and there. A few questions, will this bass have graphite neck rods, will it have been Plek'd, and are these early 55-94's as good as the newer 55-94's bar the electronics.. What Bart preamp will it have.? Its got some weight to it at 4.5kg but I don't mind so much as I play sat down a lot. Anyway thankyou for any advice given. A few pics of the instrument..

Graphite rods? YES
Plek’d? NO. Fretwork done all by hand by the master(s). Probably better than Plek’d in my experience.
As good as current? BETTER, in my opinion. The ‘98 to 2001 55-94s that I’ve owned or played are my absolute favorite in sound, looks (crazy Birdseye), and playability.
Bart preamp? Don’t know. But, it’s the best one Lakland ever used, IMO IME.
4.5 kg? That is just shy of 10 pounds. Most weigh a bit less. But, I would not be concerned.

I believe the preamp in it is a NTMB 918. For many Lakland users, this is the Holy Grail set up. Bart Pre and Bart Pups. I have owned a 1997, 1999 and a 2017 Lakland 55-94. All of them are great basses! I sold the 2017 and kept the other 2. The 97 I've had since new and the 1999 is a great player. There is something about the LH-3 system that doesn't jive with me. Still any Lakland will be a fine instrument! The necks are the most amazing of all time. Good luck.

Great BEM neck on this one. I think you'll be glad to have it. I have four Laklands and my oldest one has the best action and neck.

As others have said, the older US Laklands are gems. The figuring in the maple top and fingerboard is pretty hard to get these days. As for the electronics, i also prefer the Barts. The Lakland/Hanson stuff is more modern sounding, and I had the weak A string on my ‘12 55-94. My ‘00 sounds and looks better, IMHO. (Cherry burst is the 2012, blue is the 2000).

I'm very fond of the 2 LH P Pickup varieties. I haven't had a chance to sample the LH Jazz p'ups, although I have owned some Chi singles in a J bass. They were phenomenal!
