Hey guys. A bit of advise from you guys. I have a 55-01. Im in the process of upgrading to a Nordstrand 3b. I havent be crazy about the tone of the Low B string it just sounds really flabby/muddy. Ive actually considered restringing to EADGC. I cant seem to find a b string tone i like. I only use it on slow songs. Hopefully this new preamp will help me. Finally the question.. since I am doing new preamp I am adding new strings. Are there any strings that could help with the "flabby" tone? I am currently using D'Addario EXL170-5SL 5-String Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings, Light, Super Long Scale. Thanks!
A 135 B will tighten it up. And, I always preferred stainless, they’re brighter and therefore less muddy... just my opinion.
How does it sound unplugged? Are you tuning to pitch? What amp are you playing through? I’ve used those strings on a bunch of basses, and flabby isn’t what i’m getting.
Im playing through a Tech 21 Vt Deluxe into a PA system (2 15" pa speakers.) Doesnt sound Flabby was probably a poor choice of words. The string doesnt feel flabby. Just sounds unmusical to my ears.
As I was typing this out just occured to me to maybe sit down with the sound guys. Because it doesnt even sound good in my in-ears. Sadly I dont have an Amp at home. Just a Another Pa speaker atm. Im currently looking into a set up. Im leaning toward a 2x10

I want to do chrome knobs on this bass. Do any of you know the shaft size for these pots? It's a Skyline, so I think it uses the Alphas, but I am not totally sure.
Neck width is just under 1.5” measuring in at 1 15/32”. Lightweight ash body, passive w/single coils but rear routed for preamp. Has upgraded dual stacked vol/tone pots.
Here’s a demo video from Lakland. It’s the Vintage series, but with the mods on this bass they sound and look identical.
