Just took of the guard From my US BG (need it to make a template gold anodised guard custom order). I wonder - is it finish under guard that started to yellow or rest of the finish which starts to fade?
Basspraiser (Doug) and I became friends over 10 years ago, by way of TB, the Lakland thread, and the owners group. We are like brothers now, and text each other almost every day LOL. His work brought him near Tn and we were able to meet for steaks and beer yesterday. And, of course, we talked about Laklands. Here’s a pic we took, so you’ll have an idea what us two crazy Lakland fans look like.
The Doude is a great feller and lots of fun to hang with. Great that you got together!
My feeling is the PG caused the finish beneath it to yellow.
Why is it that Lakland seems unable to get the shape right on the Skyline 44-60 pickguards? Seems it would be easy enough to just maintain a fixed distance from the outline of the body. I am OCD enough that this bothers me.

I've been trying to sell/trade my 44-02 deluxe because I wasn't boding with the play and tone. I wasn't getting any bites on sales - probably because it's got a few finish cracks and I replaced the preamp with an Audere so it wasn't stock.
I had a new set of the flats I use and the other day I figured I'd trade out this new set for the newish set of the same strings I had on it. The A-string windings had separated a bit for some reason and I realized I didn't wind that much of the strings around the posts. This time I wound it so that the last pass of the strings was right at the bottom of the post. Bingo! Now I'm not getting the same kind of fret buzz I was getting and I was able to lower the strings to where I have them on my Ibanez SR's. This one has become a keeper!!
It turns out I had a bum set of Sadowsky flats that gave the pickups a sort of spongy/hollowish tone but with these new ones the tone is full and rich. I also realized that turning the mids down at 750 Hz made these pickups sound better to me. The Audere preamp I installed has two mid controls - one at 750 Hz and the other at 250 Hz. It sounds really good with the high mids turned down a bit and the low mids turned up a bit.
Now I'm not only not selling it but I'm also not looking to replace the pickups!

I’ve always heard that string choice is the most important factor in the tone that you get. And, of course, a defective string or strings can make all kinds of bad sounds happen. Congrats!
Haha yes i seen this same model and color on a sweetwater demo today. That exact thing jumped out at me and I thought it looked sloppy.
Thanks! I really didn't want to sell or trade it, but I wasn't gelling with it. Glad it was only the strings.
That's what I've found on both accounts. I've been using Sadowsky flatwounds for more than 10 years. No other strings that I've tried give me a tone similar to rounds (but without the sproingy overtones on top) and allow me to get such low action while still being flexible enough to play without hand fatigue. I've never had a problem with them until this particular set, and this new set went on without a hitch. Now they'll stay on this bass until they fall off! I've had the same set on one of my basses for seven or eight years now and they still sound great!
I'm going to guess that it's the underside of the pickguard somehow reacting with the lacquer/poly underneath. The surrounding finish is beautiful!
