Chambered you say?

There are a few 34" custom basses out there

I asked for "light"....and Leo said they'd choose light ash and get it near 8.5, chambering if needed....I responded that I'd love it closer to 8.0, so he specified it will definitely be chambered, which he said they began doing relatively recently . The next 3-4 months will take an eternity

Greets....again.....a few years back I reluctantly divested of Laklands as I wanted to get back to 34" 5ers only.......and was recently delighted to see they are currently offering 34" scale on some custom 5ers; I ordered a 34" 54 dual J (that's what Leo called it)......trans orange over chambered ash/ RW/ JJ/ passive.....really looking forward to this one......are there other "deviant" 34" Lakland 5ers out in the wild?

Yup! I have a 34" 5 string Lakie that has become my number one. I changed the strings from low B-G to E-high C. Then I had Carl Pedigo (of Lakland heritage) make me another 34" 5 string with the same E-high C with 3 humbuckers. That one has my name on it though

Question to the group: I am having ALOT of cognitive dissonance on buying a non-Lakland because I want a medium scale in the corral. As posted previously, Carl said that obtaining a 32” retrofit for a 44-02 or similar is a non-starter. Any ideas?

Man!!! Trans orange and rosewood too?! If only you’d gotten a dual P instead! As Carl said, it’s like a jazz but better! Don’t take offense, I’m just partial to my dual P and not a fan of J basses.

Serek basses by Jake Serek, a former Lakland luthier. He offers 30.5”, 32”, and 34” basses that are modern takes on historic looks.... non-Fender looks. He will be building a bass for me in the future, guaranteed!

Good call- we had the Chicago GTG at Serek's place last year (and are hoping to this year as well), and they make some very nice instruments. Definitely not toys. And they have quartersawn necks too, similar to US Laklands.

I must have a 34” Sacramento!!!

I actually stumbled onto the Serek website when I did a search for “better Rickenbacker” LOL. And the Sacramento is exactly what I was looking for! Of course, some of the other designs are very intriguing as well!

I’ll bring it and my latest bass, another dual P that I put together: a goblin flake super lightweight swamp ash Warmoth body, EMG pickups, and a Fender MIJ 70s P neck. It will be fun comparing the two, although I know the Carlo will win. It’s a beast!
