Question. How are the B strings on the 34” scale Basses? Same “piano-like” clarity or do they become soft and squishy like Fender 5ers?

Lakland seems to have dropped the long scale HB, both USA and Skyline. I have a Skyline that I love. Was wondering why they dropped that wonderful bass? In the country world, I have seen a number of USAs played.
Hmmm...kinda squishy IMO. I think the 35" scale really is part of the Lakland recipe for a successful B string. Luckily both of my 34" Lakland basses are E-high C.
I know there's a few Chicago/Midwest folks in this group, so FYI...

I have played a few neck-thru 34" 5ers, with multi-laminate necks, that had decent B strings. I've also played some 35" scale neck-thru multi lams that had a tighter feeling B (same string and diameter) than my Lakland 5ers. My experience is that Lakland necks have a smidge more flex than neck-thru multi lams.... they're not as stiff. This can have an affect on the perceived tightness of the B, and how low you can get your action before string buzz gets out of control. I still prefer Lakland 5 string basses over all other brands. But, I would not want a 34" Lakland 5er, unless it was E - C. Also, If I ever get a Carlo 5 string, it will have a multi lam neck. Carl says he has a slab of some exotic (I can't remember the name) that he absolutely cannot get to flex.
I would like to get a used Lakland USA JO 5-string if anyone knows of one.

Lakland came in late Friday and dang it is one purty bass, came with nice gator soft case, tossed the round wounds off and put my TI Flats on, and damn this is a great bass to play, absolutely no pickup hum like my geddy lee! since I was using flats you cant go through the body with flat strings, All I need now is the the nerve to tell the wife I bought yet another bass.................Might be sleeping with the dogs soon.

I picked up a Skyline “Vintage Jazz” 35” scale 5 string last year in trade and it’s a remarkable instrument. Currently strung with DR Legends flats.
The passive pickups are even more remarkable - I’d say even better than the AEROs I have in my USA Fender P.
