For my fretless I seem to have settled on the rear MM setting with a slight bass boost when playing live in a band; but front pickup and rear MM coil (the "70s Jazz" setting ) with flat eq when playing alone or into the computer. I wonder why? Mind you, you would need to put real effort in if you wanted to make a 55-02 produce an unusable tone.
I find all coils on just a little too 'thick' for my taste. I prefer a bit more bite and clarity, I think. The thickness comes from the amp, plus a tube EQ.

Welcome also. Can’t wait to see pics and hear your impressions.Here's what I have coming in - Skyline 55-02 Deluxe from Sweetwater. My main bass for the last 20 years has been a Fender Urge (32" scale), so the 35" will be a fun adjustment. I also really love the sound and feel of Ernie Ball Slinkys, so I'm hoping the extra longs they make will work on this one.

I already told ya! Don’t ya ‘member? Lakland uses a diluted Tru Oil. Not sure what they thin it with. Followed by the same brand’s (Birchwood Casey) wax.

That’s the stuff! I’ve sanded off the poly on many a neck, and done the Tru Oil n wax finish. It’s so friggin nice!
Are you planning on converting a non-Lakland bass? I’m sure neither the Scheff or the 76 needs an application yet.

i just want the supplies on hand. if you think they are ok I will leave them be for now. With regards to application of said oil & wax...what would I youtube specifically. it appears they are intended for gun stocks. so 'gun stock refinishing' ?

2. Has anyone used TI Jazz Flats strung through body on their Lakland? Did the 34" scale work or did you use the 36" "super long?
By the way, I tried my first set of TI Jazz Flats. I put my first set of TI Jazz Flats short scale on my HB30 and man, I see what the hype is all about! They play, feel, sound awesome!

You can also get a close approximation of the Birchwood Casey stuff by using readily available Howard’s Orange oil and Howard’s Feed and Wax.

I'd be wary of stringing flats through the body. I've never tried, but I've read that they can break at that additional stress point. (I think I've got that right.)
Counterpoint, I've strung a set of GHS Precision Flats through the body of my ex-Duck Dunn 44-64 and have the same set through the body on my US Fender Jazz with no issues. I've taken the same set off and reinstalled as needed probably 6 times with no I'll effects. You mileage may vary.
I have heard that flats are too stiff to be strung through the body. They will supposedly break.
I've only tried it once and it broke. LaBella support claims that their "Thru-body" version should work.
