I'd be wary of stringing flats through the body. I've never tried, but I've read that they can break at that additional stress point. (I think I've got that right.)

I've taken JJ's advice on this one. Through bridge for me when using flats.

Counterpoint, I've strung a set of GHS Precision Flats through the body of my ex-Duck Dunn 44-64 and have the same set through the body on my US Fender Jazz with no issues. I've taken the same set off and reinstalled as needed probably 6 times with no I'll effects. You mileage may vary.

How you like those P-Flats? I had 'em on a Ray Special once and I loved them...just not on that bass.

Cut the tip of my pinky off using a mandolin ( the kitchen tool not the stringed instrument.... )

I need to keep this on for a week or so.. And then put another on for a few weeks until it heals..

Gosh I'm not playing it working regularly right now!!!

Best Flats I've ever used, I love that they are smooth. Every other brand of flats that I've used would have tiny, painful ridges. Also they are not as stiff as other brands.

I’m really digging the feel of the Labella low tension flats that I picked up from the Talkbass store. They’re so smooth they look like chrome spaghetti noodles! I can’t see any windings except next to the ball ends.

Good to know. Years ago, the first couple of flat sets, Fender and LaBella, that I tried were very uncomfortable. I removed both sets after a couple of gigs. I didn't use flats for almost 10 years after that. I saw the Precision Flats and read about how smooth they are and found a cheap set and haven't needed another set. I love them. If I ever need another set, I may try the Labella's.

Not the typical gauges that I prefer, but my preferred strings are D’addario ProSteels. So, this experimentation phase I’m in has me trying lots of things outside my norm. I have more P basses (basses with split P pickups) than ever before, and I’m actually digging them! I never thought I’d see the day!

I have Sadowsky Blue Label flats on the 57 (avatar pic), the LaBellas on my sparkly green dual P, and I have a set of DR Legends that I haven’t opened yet. Oh... and several sets of barely used Chromes that I’ve tried over the years and quickly removed LOL.

Ironically I was using the holder....
It got jammed....I guess I used a bit too much force to unjam it!!!

Love the DR Legends for flats. So smooth and silvery with a sound approaching the Labella DTF. Not as stiff as Labellas but stiffer than the TI Flats.

I've been rocking DR Pure Blues on the 76 and Sunbeams on the Scheff. My god those Sunbeams are MELLOW. With generous mids cut they sound damn near perfect.
