I'm avoiding extra basses for a while. The pursuit of "the next" kept me from spending time learning.
Ok guys...I usually don't rant & rave a lot about a bass, but my 5502 is the shiznit! I guess I've had & played so much stuff, I've finally found my bass....and I have something bubbling on another one. Lol This bass has been played everyday since I received it! Man!!! I'm done.
No, it had chis already. I owned it before, it used to be charcoal with the crooked lakland logo... Anyway, it has the beat neck ever and I should have never sold it. Ultimately I decided to keep the chi prototype and let this one go. It also had a preamp when I owned it. Anyway... It was heavy and the finish was kinda crappy, by it always sounded great and the neck was amazing. I sent it to Pat and he absolutely nailed the color. I sent him a pic of a '61 jazzmaster as reference but asked him to do it exactly like Lakland CAR, but in green. He definitely hammered it. Additionally, the bass is literally a full lb lighter than it used to be. I'll try to get some real pics so you guys can really see the color, its beautiful in person.

You can't go wrong either way with those! Best of luck on the showcase.
Hnm. That's too bad as I'm not sure I want to upgrade both simultaneously rather it will be enough just to change out one of the two components.
I don't know that 100% for sure, but I just know that there are PCB's on the back of the LH3 Pickups that look like they're doing a lot more than just having a handy place to connect the wires. I could be very wrong, it's just my observation, and not directly knowing anyone that has kept the LH3 Pre but swapped the pickups or vice versa.
I went to the Philly Guitar show over the weekend and played a few pre-CBS Fenders including a '63 Jazz....none of the necks were nearly as nice as my old US JO !

Yeah, the neck is too sweet... BTW, the new finish shaved an entire lb off the weight of the bass. Crazy... I asked Pat about it and he said when he stripped the bass it had a ton of paint on it.
Was the bass a Skyline? Does he have Lakland decals he can put on headstocks?
No, it's a US that had been refined by another guy and I had pat re-refinish it.
