Yep, that was the one. I believe Doug and I first saw that bass at the old shop together. And I agree, that bass was fantastic. Incredible neck, super-resonant.

Was sold a year ago for a good chunk of $ less in much better condition then with a like-new case.

I’ll never understand how or why someone can do so much damage to a bass! I’ve played in many hard rock bands and never even put a ding in one. I wouldn’t trust that Scheff #3 doesn’t have some more serious undisclosed issues, since the seller trashed it in such a short time. JERK!

So maybe the PO did the damage and used older pics. It would be nice to rescue that one but that's pretty pricey in my unsolicited opinion. Still... a rare change at a rare bass...
No more than $1500, shipped. Last listed at $1950 and probably sold with an offer of $1750. There is absolutely nothing to indicate a reason to pay MORE than that last listed or sell price. Quite the opposite.
Was the case shi**ed up in shipping as well? The thing travelled in a case (in a box) and those headstock and finish dings are unlikely in-case travel damage IMHO. And, on teh long shot that's true they may have then negotiated a refund arouns the delivered damage. Again, unlikely in my mind but just playing thing out.
Maybe contact the prior owner/seller to verify the story

I was thinking $1500-1600 if I REALLY wanted it but @nervous has talked me down to $1500 too. Luckily my fretless needs are currently met LOL.
You're post made my case. If the first seller was dishonest with their listing pics or details, undisclosed damage, there's no way that the new buyer, with 'many Laklands', would have accepted that without some level of compensation or return. $1500 may be too high... in principal alone. And 'rare' isn't enough provenance to warrant a HIGHER premium price in WORSE condition. BS.
I communicated back and forth with the seller right after he listed. After asking some questions he added the headstock pic and admitted it was dinged up as well. He said the gouges in the body are where your forearm rests. I had almost purchased it a year ago from the previous seller and had communicated with him. He seemed like a stand up guy. That time it had sat for a couple weeks until the price went down a few hundred. The case isn't the one it came with that one was tweed. The current seller has sold some iffy Lakland parts in the past- look at his sold items. I found that previously I had inquired about one of those with him and passed. Way over-priced in this condition.
I'm fairly gutsy with buying and really want a fretless Scheff but here a buyer could get lucky (if it sells for way less) or take as bad a dive as this bass may have.
Can't wait to read the previous seller's reply.

Plus, if you REALLY get a hankering for some fretless Scheff, just swap the necks with your 44-94 and have at it for a spell!
I did something stupid. And by stupid, I mean long overdue but the timing isn't necessarily the best.
