Could be. If I remember correctly, Skylines are P only from Lakland. Any J pickup would be done by the owner, if my memory is correct.

From what I can see on the Lakland site, you are correct, although they offer a Precision/Jazz 4 string there is no 5 String P/J available as a standard option.

I know most players love that bridge J sound solo, and the ability to mix it in w/ the P. But, I swear.... somebody else in this group besides me needs to order a dual P or a J/P (J neck w/ middle P). I want somebody else to hear and feel the awesomeness!

Oh well... maybe after the review clip of my latest J/P/J “tractor” gets posted on YouTube...

In the mean time, I’ll be making a couple J/P basses and a P/MM out of some of my other non-Lakies so I can test some different ideas.

Have to the US shop make it. The P pickup only applies to the Skyline line.

There is a difference in the pickups that require five string versions, especially with the Precision Bass which is generally a 3 pole piece for the B,E, and A and 2 pole piece with the D and G. Could be a little tricker to set up as a Lakland Skyline option, where the U.S.A. Lakland are basically custom orders.

As John Pirrucelli told me once, if someone wants it, they’ll build it. I’m sure there’s limits and some things they won’t do, like a soft wood neck or a design that just wouldn’t sound musical.

I recall Markus getting an all Rosewood necked Lakland, IIRC. It was dark wood for sure and had some engraved Anniversary stuff on the back of the headstock.

New and used strings of all types:

I hate throwing away barely used strings. It’s just wasteful. So, if anyone is interested, I have new, barely used (like a few minutes), and a few broken in sets of flats, nickels, and steels. Many were on a Lakland 4 string thru body and/or top loaded. Prices are negotiable, especially on the used sets. I just don’t want to spend more on shipping than I pocket for them.

I'm not as familiar with the more exotic woods used for fingerboards, traditionally in the Double Bass world, where I'm also very involved, Ebony, Rosewood, and Maple were used for fingerboards. Since both Ebony and Rosewood

are quickly becoming endangered hardwoods, Taylor guitars has stepped in and is helping with management and conservation efforts of those forrests. What they were doing was felling trees that had white specks in the ebony and

rejecting them for sale to manufactures, simply discarding all the wood that wasn't perfectly black. Wenge is also likely an endangered hardwood and could be possibly more scarce. Hopefully we won't reach the crisis that Grenidilla did

with woodwind manufacturing, where they actually had to go to synthetic materials for the upper portions of a clarinet, but we already may have arrived at that point with Ebony, Rosewood, and possible Wenge.

Anyone ever try these: Optima 24K Gold Electric Bass Guitar Strings - 5 & 6-string sets

Also - this site seems to be the most reasonable...anyone ever deal with them? any good or bad feedback?
