I got hooked on these thanks to having them on a bass I bought from Tully. I've tried so many other types and none quite do what these do. Sound fantastic on both of my 55-94s, one with Lakland pups and pre, the other all Barts.

I used DM Blues Steel strings years ago on my Tobias Killer B 5 string bass. I like the sound when listening to Jimmy Haslip play with the Yellow Jackets. Killer tone but what I didn't like about them back then they were hard to play and just tore my fingers up. I then switched to DR Hi Beams which played a lot better and sound good too but didn't have that aggressive bright sound I liked on the Blue Steel. I haven't tried them since, maybe might try them again but in a thinner string this time. Right now I'm using MTD STR5CM 45-135X on my Lakland 55-02 Deluxe, love the sound and playability. These remind me of the Blue Steel a little bit but play way better.

I haven't tried those. I also tried the SS version of the Blue Steels but they were a little brighter than I liked. These Nickel Plated ones let the thump undertones come out. Had difficulty locating them in the Staes for a while even though the company is in NC. But now they have added an online store to their website and I was able to order at 29.99 from there.

Guys I'm torn! I have a NBD in my near future. I have a Lakland 55-01 with a nordstrand pre. And am looking to add to my stable. I pretty much play praise and worship for my church. I really want a 55-64 but my wallet(wife) isn't ready for that level yet. So I'm torn between the 55-02, the dj5, and the 55-60 all (skylines.) I was thinking go with the 55-02.

Then to throw a wrench in things I emailed Lakland about a 55-64 skyline, and John Pirruccello said "We are working on a Skyline 55-64 P&J custom. (Like the GZ)" so now what! Haha or is it worth upgrading the pickups in the 55-01...

May be worth the wait!

You cannot go wrong with a 5502..... They now have a black 5502 with an ebony blocked fretboard... Oh my.

I play worship music as well and a 5502 fits the bill really really well....

So does my 5564 PJ!

Lakland 55-02 and Stainless Steel string(s) "dilemma" As of right now, (to me) the best sounding SS string is the GHS Super Steels; the problem is that they're a little hard to come by for (55-02) 5 string Basses (which requires a longer scale string); So, I'm considering trying a set of DR SS strings (never been a fan of DR Nickels), but I'm "torn" between which set would sound closest to the GHS Super Steels; the High Beams, the Fat Beams or the Low Riders? Which one of these 3 sets provide a better low mid tone and thump or overall better low end? Will any/all of these sets be long enough to fit a 35' scale Bass? OR do I need the Long neck set that DR offers? and does the Long Neck set have good low/mid punch or just better overall low end? Thanks.

I like the super steels on my five string and of the DR I preferred the fat beams. Better lows and mids, smoother highs. Hi beams are a little brighter and not as punchy.

I don't remember what scale length I ordered in any of these sets for my 35 (pensa jazz bass) but they all fit.

Thank you Sir, I would've thought it'd be the Fat Beams that would provide better low-mids/better or more low end. Thanks again.

That's a real nice bass there. Never thought that colour would look good on a bass but with the pearloid pickguard I think its amazing.

Searched around here but didn’t find much, and call to Lakland directed me to third parties. Has anyone had a custom pickguard for their Lakland recently recommend a custom pickguard builder for my US 44-64? Most intel out there involves companies that have since closed.

I’d rather not have to send in the original guard, even though that seems like a big ask when Lakland pickguards are involved. TIA!
