I second long necks if you like steel strings. They fit Lakland 5ers perfectly. When I had a bass set up with them at Lakland by Carl Pedigo, he commented that it's "like they were made for Laklands".

Lack of length to go thru-body is the main reason MTDs are top load only for the fat strings. Also, IIRC the B is full diameter at the ball end and I would never try to get a 135 to bend at nearly a right angle.
Wow. 13 lbs. for a bass! I don't think I've ever had one that hefty. If I did, I didn't notice because I would have been a lot younger. I do use a padded strap for any bass now anyway.
This 44-64 GZ says it's Ash, and it does appear to be a very tight grain for Ash. It's still not even on their website for 2021.
9.4 lbs., Ash string-thru body, Jazz 1.5" nut neck, Geezer EMG's, Ebony board with inlays, PLEK'd, and "almost" Minnesota Vikings purple. How could I lose on this one going back to a Lakland again? I'll find out soon enough.

Earlier, I said I liked the preamp mids on my 55-94 set to 275. And by myself, I did like that.
But playing along with the stereo, this felt too low, and also boxy/klunky.
So, I kept the stereo running and played with settings and ended up much higher, like 800.
This seems much better at getting the mids and clarity, grind, round wound feel to step forward or back a little.

Amazing, you’ve got one of every available model, and you literally create a new model with the T bird 44 51! Way to go!
I love, love, love my 44-64 with GZR’s. Have yet to meet anyone that doesn’t, including some proper pro musicians!
since that Buckeye is the odd man out being the only 5 string, you or to just sale me that one lol.
From a fairly long and not-illustrious non-career in recording lots of friends bands and such, I’ve found 250-500hz to be among the worst frequencies for nearly every instrument. Things tend to build up in this area in a mix and cause a lot of low end mud. Very little clarity in this range.

Hey all 55-02 (Deluxe) owners out there; 
I'm a new 55-02 owner in search of "the best sounding string set" for this particular Bass ... 
Yeah, I know what you're thinking, but since I'm a new owner, I was wondering if there was a particular set "most" 55-02 owners tend to agree on; I prefer Nickel plated but open to SS suggestions as well (def. No flats for this Bass, not at this time anyway 
). Right now I'm using the strings that came with the Bass, I believe they're the D'Addario EXL170-5 set; these strings sound Great for finger style playing, but not so much for Slap style playing. I also tried a set of the Lakland nickels and found them to be just MEH- nothing special. The thing that's "lacking" is in the low mids, there's no Umph or Punch in that area when slapping, it has plenty of low end (could be too much at times) making it sound too boomy/muddy, and there's a decent amount of high end, but again, I can't seem to get that low/mid punch and I really need that when slapping/thumping. Does this sound familiar with anyone else that play a 55-02? I REALLY DON'T wanna start swapping pickups/preamps AT ALL, especially this early on, I just got it ... but I'm open to suggestions because I did realize/notice that the Lakland preamp compared to my Fender American Deluxe pre and my Warmoth build with a ToneMonster preamp sounds a bit ... weak; but I'd rather not mess with the electronics if I don't have to, Thanks.

The mid range control has like 8 or 9 different selectable frequencies.

Hey Thanks Chef, I did open up the back and I tried quite a few of the options on the back of the cover; The one that sounds the best to my ears are the 1 and 2 switches in the down position, and the 3 and 4 switches in the up position; I don't know what frequency that is because it's not one of those that's pictured on the backside of the control plate cover, but it's the one setting that sounds best to my ears thus far. Thanks.
Hmmm, DR strings are a popular choice for many, but I've tried several sets of the DR strings, and they just don't do it for me, I don't know what it is, but they just don't do it for me, Thanks. ... Although, (to be honest) I haven't tried a set of DR'S on THIS particular Bass ... Everyone of my old sets that I have lying around are for 4 string Basses.
