Here's a pic. It's kinda unique with the birdseye inlays on ebony. I bought it here a few weeks ago. Sounds great and the neck is awesome.
Egads! That's one beautiful bass! With that attention to detail, if the nut bothers you, replace it.
oooh that sure is purdy! I have an irrational disliking of ebony boards but that one looks dynamite with those inlays. That black and tan combo is great.
That is how all US Lakland basses are, and it’s not a flaw. Do not replace the nut. A higher nut slot will make your E string play like total crap.
US Lakland headstocks and fretboards are designed in a way that the B and E strings chew into the fretboard at the end due to the downward angle past the nut. It’s due to the fact that the fretboards extend quite a bit further toward the tuners than almost all other basses you’ll encounter.

Thanks your point is helpful. Also shortening the E string a bit so it's not so many wraps also brought the string just off the fretboard.

My first Lakland, a 55-02 in Black Sparkle has arrived! The neck is killer and really love the tone. I’ll post more thoughts after putting it through a solid workout! Haven’t had a 5er in over 10 years. Here are some pics!
Another great looking ebony board, aye! you guys are going to make me re-think my no ebony stance here.
Let us know your thoughts compared to sadowsky. A will lee has been on the gas list for a long time. Hard for me to justify spending USA lakland money on a metro series sadowsky tho, or 7 grand on a usa model.

Yes, I wouldn’t mind hearing about how the Sadowsky neck compares to a Lakland. Which is wider? Thoughts on the neck profile, which is thinner? Etc.
Congrats,beautiful! Besides being versatile, having many tones available, it is very tweak-able electronicly.
Also, hit that bass with some daylight so we can see the sparkle!

it's funny, i would hate the 02/94 style knobs on any other bass, but somehow on the lakland they just look totally at home, but it was a gas bass for me for probably 20 years before i bought one so. probably sounds pretty silly.

A question to the folks in the know. If I wanted a Skyline 44-60 with concentric pots, how would I order one? I’ve seen a few recently.

Good question. I've seen them before, but I'm not sure if Lakland ordered a special run or two, or if people somehow got them modified at the shop before it got to them. (In other words, I guess I'm not in the know, lol.) I think your best bet would be to call Lakland directly and see what can be done.
