I just added Nordstrand NJ4SV hum cancelling pickups to my Lakland Skyline DJ-4. First impressions are positive. These pickups are dead quite in any setting and have plenty of punch. I loved the tone of the stock pickups but the hum just bothered me. Thanks to those on here who recommended the Nordstands. I kept the stock pickup covers. The Nordstands came with a flat black cover. I liked the stock shiny black ones. And man, that pickguard pickup cut out was tight! I don't have a before and after recording, but to my ears, they don't sound much different at all. If anything, just a touch more bassy. And the A and D poles are slightly raised.

I went with a 55-AJ Ash/Maple. Leo is a great guy. We went through every detail. Anticipating a March/April completion!

So I switched out the pickups in my Skyline DJ-4 with a set of Nordstand NJ4SV. I would like to sell my stock Lakland pickups but how no idea how much they go for. I was thinking $150 for the set. I bought the bass new a few months ago so the pickups are in great condition. Does that sound reasonable? Too high? Too low? Thanks for any advice.

I swapped my USA 44-60 Hanson's pups for Lindy Fralins Split Jazz pups. Haven't made up my mind on 'em yet. I'll play a short gig on this bass at the club in Chicago. Will see what I think then.

I always keep all original parts when making reversible upgrades of my basses. You never know when you would have to sell it all. In that case, upgrade never increases bass price significantly so it's better to sell it in original condition and sell upgrade parts separately.

Nice! so the only real big difference was the hum was now gone but both pickup were very close in sound?

I have EMG's from back in late 90's early 20's on my Fender Jazz, I wonder how these will sound on it. I love the EMG's and they are dead quiet as well! Maybe just a sideways move?

Yep. The more I play them the happier I am. They sound really great and the pesky hum is gone. And it is quiet. I actually feel freer now to experiment and mix the pickup volumes if that makes sense. Also I feel like I can leave my P bass at home as I can replicate a P sound better now than before. This one is a keeper for life.

Nice! Now you have a bass that do a P bass sound! Nice surprise!

Kind of mirrors what I got when I put the EMG's in my Fender Jazz. Covers more different sounds.

Yes, it had the standard pickguard on it before. I like the color contrast but I've always been on the fence about the shape. I put it on and take it off as I change my mind.

That's cool to have one that you have designed made. Can't wait to see it on you bass when it's done. I like my Lakland Cherry Burst just fine without a Pick Guard.

I have a Sterling SUB RAY4 that has a black pick guard on a Ruby Burst satin finish, it looks good with it but I like it better with it off. I was looking for a clear pick guard since the holes for the screws drive me nuts to see on such a nice finish. Too much at the places that were recommended, so I will just leave it on.
