I did some looking around and I'm going to try these in place of the originals that are seen here on my bass and see how they work out. I know things may seem good until actually in place.

LOL! yeah, I actually got 8 since they come 4 to a package, so just got two packages just in cause I end up messing up one or two down the road.

So, dunno whether it's appropriate for this group or no (I appeal to mods to remove if not, my intentions are good), but here's a video of our church service this morning where you can hear the DJ4 and the 55-02 fretless really well. One song I used harmonics with a JHS compressor and chorus.
It's a small church with amateur technicians, so the mix isn't great and neither is the musicianship (I don't know who the cahon player is; not sure it's really his instrument...), but the bass comes through well.

Thank you! Spontaneous decision to try that just before the service.
Hats off to the EB chrome flatwounds: they really let harmonics ring!
For the harmonics I also engaged my JHS compressor and Boss CEB-3, which gave me the sustain and evened out the volume.
DJ4 was both pickups on full, 55-02 was rear pickup both coils and a slight bass boost.

I'm really digging the look and feel of these knobs, doesn't feel cheap and just more solid now. You wouldn't think something so simple could have a nice little positive impact for tone controls. A lot of my bass player buddies really liked this upgrade.

Forgot to post this when I picked it up a couple weeks ago, but here is my new 55-14 that I picked up from the Lakland shop. She is beautiful and plays amazing!!!! Can not give enough shout outs to the whole crew there and also the hospitality. Being a part of the Lakland family truly feels like a family. Of course.....I also left with my pockets a little lighter because I could not resist having them start another build for me....ha!

And just for fun here is a partial family pic....one of my 55-02's was actually at the Lakland shop for some TLC....long story...haha!

Lakland brain trust.
I have played a 55-94 deluxe that I bought new in 2002. It was my main 5 string until last year, when I bought a Sadowski.
I love the sound of the Sadowski but you just cannot beat the playability and the neck on that 55-94.
Now the question. Have any of you tried the Sadowski pre-amp in a 55-94? Trying to get the best of both worlds in one bass.
I would be open to other suggestions as well.

I'm relatively new to Lakland (picked up a Skyline Hollowbody here a couple of months ago). Can you explain the differences between the 55-14 and a 55-02, in a nutshell? Thx!

The 55-14 is a usa made bass, with the quartersawn neck, bone nut and hand finished fretwork. Also in theory they are lighter, byt there’s light 55-02’s out there.
The maple fingerboards are not figured (although the silver one above has a lot of figuring for a “plain” ‘board), but they use ebony dots on maple fingerboards and maple dots on rosewood ones. Only appear to have alder bodies at the moment. They also come with a hardshell case. 55-14’s don’t have figured tops either.

The 55-14 and 55-02 both have the Lakland USA pickups and electronics, and skyline hardware (hipshot licensed tuners and skyline bridge).

55-02’s are made in Indonesia and assembled and plekked at Lakland in Chicago. Ash bodies. There are deluxe ones available with quilted maple tops. Necks are flatsawn. Maple or laurel fingerboards. No hardshell case. No figured maple ‘boards and they use plastic/synthetic dots on the fingerboards.

Fred312b pretty much nailed a lot of it as far as differences. I will say that the feel of the neck for me makes it worth it all together and there is somthing about frets down by hand vs. a PLEK that feels so much better. Having owned and played Lakland's since around 2003 with that including both US and Skyline models there is definitely a difference between US vs. Imports. The weight is a also a difference that stands out...of the 3 55-02's I own they all weight much more. And my 55-01 (2003) with the quilted top weights almost 4lbs more than the 55-14....it is what I call the back breaker...ha!

Regardless of whether it is a US or Skyline.....Lakland has top notch customer service and always goes above and beyond.

Wait, are there different bridges for USA and Skyline? I know all about the tuners but always thought the bridge was the same.

I am 99% sure the skyline bridges are a different material- I remember researching this before and really having to dig to find it. I'm too lazy to do it now (off work tomorrow, in 3 day weekend mode ) but will gladly waste company time doing it next week if there's still a question about it...

the saddles are definitely different. I cannot really tell any difference in the materials of the bridge itself. The bridge on my skyline is definitely quite a bit thicker than the bridge on my american. maybe it's coated/plated instead of solid.
