I need to put a large-pole split P (one musicman sized pole per string like several pickup makers offer) in the Stingray location (reversed orientation) and combine it w/ a highly versatile preamp. Voila... you'd be a P player.

Lakland sells pickguards or at least they did in 2017. I got one for the 55-02 Lined Fretless I used to own. Mine was a Tortoise Shell.

The 55-AJ arrived. Gave it a full cleaning, conditioning, polishing and setup with a new set of strings. Sounds great and plays just like a 55 should. Great addition to the collection.

I really like them. The Aguilar P is lower output than the neopunch and definitely leans traditional. So it has that woodiness but with some modern brightness to it. It’s very responsive. The J is humcanceling and dead quiet. Also leans traditional with great bark. At full tone it’s a little bright but responds well to the tone control and fattens up when rolled off. Together they are completely balanced. I love that I can hear the J dialing in and bring in all sorts of modern clarity. In comparison to the lakland stock where there was a huge volume drop with both full on, there is almost zero volume change with the Aguilar. I really liked the neopunch solo but felt it was too hot and the vintage J just didn’t blend well. I think about switching back sometimes but then I play the Aguilar and realize there’s a reason so many boutique builders use them. Real deal P and J tones, dead quiet, very balanced and responsive. I think it totally leveled up the 44-64.

Thanks for the feedback. I once made a P bass shootout at a local store and compared the complete Fender/SQ range plus the Lakland. Well the Lakland won because of its playability, functionality, tone and look. besides many P’s in my arsenal the Lakland is by far the best choice. I did not swap the Pickup, because it is very hot and has besides the vintage sound an open and punchy sound played with a pick, which cuts through the mix like butter.
