Lakland singles while in passive mode have a nice full low end with a mild top. With the LH3 engaged it changes to an in your face upper midrange with less low end.
Thought I'd note here that, while my Fender Mustang PJ with EMG J & GZR P pups sounds great, and my two P basses, one a 50s Classic stock and the other a 1960 vintage with a Curtis Novak PB-V, both sound stellar, and my two six-string basses, one an Ibanez fretted with single-coil pups and the other a Kiesel fretless with proprietary humbuckers, are both legendary in their unique tones...
my recently acquired 2003 Skyline 44-02 is getting the new title as the shaging sickest, most awesome sounding bass in my already impressive arsenal of basses. AND it's a Deluxe with the 3-tone quilted maple sunburst, so yeah--this thing's a babe.
I gigged the '03 Skyline tonight for the first time, straight settings & thru an admittedly sexy backline Eden World Traveler 800 rig, and people were running up asking how I punched so hard. Bandmates are unanimous that it's the best-sounding bass I've ever brought to rehearsal. My fingers are telling me it's the easiest bass I've ever owned to handle fingerstyle, put a plectrum to work on, and get slappy with.
Was life really ever this easy before? Was I just swimming upstream till I found this instrument?

It's not a real plane. I work at an Aviation Academy and got some free time from the cabin simulator to do the photo shoot
I should've known it wasn't a real commercial plane. Way too much legroom.

Yesterday was my first time with the Lakland 44-64, and it is one of the finest and best sounding instruments that I have ever owned.
At first I was a little concerned about her weight, but she's really well balanced and with a 4" strap I really didn't noticed any difference with my lighter Fenders, and I can sat that she really is a very confortable bass.
I also noticed that she is also a very hot bass. I had to adjust levels on the compressor to even the signal to my other basses, and she's definitely hotter than my Fender PJ and maybe as hot as my Mustang Pawn Shop with humbucker. Those Geezler Butler pickups have a lot of punch, but at the same time are very clear and have just enough bottom end. The P pickup soloed is punchy and vibrant, and when you add the J pickup you get some more definition and articulation to the sound. I'm using Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinky strings on 45 - 100 gauge.
She also sounded incredible with some of my pedal board effects, the Darkglass Vintage Ultra adds some warmth and when I had the Darkglass Alpha Omicron engaged it really added character and presence.
At the end of the night I was very satisfied with the tone and how easy and fast her neck is. Overall I was really pleased with the tone and presence of the bass, and some compliments from my band's members confirmed that she's a really nice bass, and have to tell you one very difficult to put down.

OT - re: your Questlove avatar - I absolutely LOVE his QLS podcast! Great Nathan East, Chuck Rainey (w/ Bernard Purdie) and Esperanza Spalding episodes for the bass players amongst many, many others (Greg Phllingaines was oustanding).

No nock on the current Lakland Gig Bags, but I just love my Red Lakland Gig Bag from 2000. Light, great looking, nice heavy padding. Does anyone know where these bags were made. I’d love to have a second one for my new 55-94 Lined Fretless.
Those are UnderCover bags, they are no longer made, sadly. I've got a green one myself.
I have about the same bass but I must say I do prefer the no neck binding on yours to mine.
I was thinking I have one of those, you have it with my Carlo!
