My group did a featured set at Smith's Olde Bar on Monday, and we had a skilled photographer on site who's wanting to grow his portfolio. I feel pretty great about all of his work and in particular these couple of shots of me sporting the 44-02 Deluxe:
I replaced the pickups in my Skyline 44-64 Custom P/J Fretless with Nordstrand hum cancelling NP4 and NJ4SV set. Wow, what a difference. These are dead quiet. They are not as hot as the stock pickups, but I found those too hot and louder than my Lakland DJ-4 (also with a set of Nordstrand NJ4SV pickups). Now both bases have similar output and absolutely no hum. I am super happy with them.
Saw this on the GC used site... priced a little high but looks to be in good shape, especially for its age... says it comes with a bag, maybe it's an old UnderCover

Quite the contrary... it's on the cheap side. It's the infamous "top jack" early version, small Barts... Not my cup of tea otherwise it wouldn't be there anymore. But a great find.
And it's right here in Austin, but I live up North.

Fun gig last night "in the round" at North Shore Music Theatre in MA!
Lakland's look great in black and white or color, that's a real testament to the finish work on their basses.

That quilted maple is the real deal! Looks like a 3d topographical map up close. And the body feels like it could handle violence, though it was and will continue to be babied so nothing blocks its shine.
Not a bad place to live!! One of my bandmates is on the west side of Piedmont Park and I think has a similar walk. I'm down in Reynoldstown, so it's a healthy bike ride up there, but I've done it... just not with a bass lol

How does the Lakland's pickups compare to the Bartolini's? Will tune it EADGC and maybe strung it with Labella's White Gold tapes. Main use will be for church,

This is the one I've been looking at:
I use my 5594 for church and it works really well. Mine has Bartolini pickups and a John East preamp.
The tone is even across all strings and up the neck, and the B is simply thunderous. It's very well balanced which makes it the most comfortable bass I've ever played.
My particular bass is very strong in the mids with rolled off highs even acoustically. The Bartolinis emphasize both of those qualities. That gives it a really "polite" tone...it's hard to make it spank and clank without a trebly overdrive like the Tech21 YYZ and even then I prefer something else when I'm after that sound. I recently played a 55-02 with the Lakland electronics and while not extremely different overall, there was more treble/grind in the tone. Nearly all the demo videos I've heard sound brighter than my particular bass also.
It's a pretty flexible instrument and can cover alot of ground tonewise. It can sound a little boring on it's own but sits in a mix really well.

Bartolini's are darker than the Lakland-Hansen pickups. Both sound good.
My tale is that my 55-94 is the most flexible bass I have in my arsenal. Which includes a 59 Fender Precision and at one time included a 1966 Fender Jazz Bass.

Looks wonderful, with the right strings a 55–02 is a great instrument. I owned one. I traded it for a 55-94 lined fretless.
Aside from some cosmetic refinements and probably a more select grade of woods from 2000, they sound the same and play the same.

Yep.. I know Piedmont Park well.. before moving to Wimbledon Rd, near Smith's, I lived on 4th street in midtown, about six blocks from the park
Does anyone know the size of the hex wrench for a Skyline and have a good source for one???
