if it was me, I'd sand down the back of the neck and do a wax/oil finish (like Tru Oil, or Howards Feed & Wax).
maple fretboard is more challenging, you might just make it more stained in the process. This is the main reason people do no try to clean a maple board. I have nothing to recommend for the maple fretboard.

My new to me 2014 Skyline 55-02 Standard finally arrived. ...

Now she just needs a nice clean and setup, a fresh set of strings and some adjustments to enter rotation this weekend.

Question, do you use any specific product to clean that beautiful maple fretboard and neck? I has some stains that I will love to clean, but doesn't want to ruin the finish...

From Lakland’s website, just orange oil for maple fingerboard and no sealer. Back of the neck for Skyline is finished, so orange oil too; no cleaners with silicone or thinners.

My new to me 2014 Skyline 55-02 Standard finally arrived. She's on great shape for a 8 y/o bass, but have some dings and scratches here and there.


Question, do you use any specific product to clean that beautiful maple fretboard and neck? I has some stains that I will love to clean, but doesn't want to ruin the finish...

I still have a polishing and neck finish kit I got from Zymol called GBC# Gloss Finish, and Bridge Fret/Fingerboard Protector it's not cheap.

I’m going to try a set of Ken Smith Taper Core medium that I have around, as I’ve heard that these 55-02 shines with stainless strings. If they do not convince me, I’ll try DR Black Beauties

I think they're relatively new, within the past six months or so. That body shape works really well as a shorty. I want one.

Lakland experts! While I was changing out the 9 volt battery in my 55-94 today, instead of the screw coming out the screw and the brass screw sleeve
that holds the screw in place came out together.. I’ll take it down to the luthier Wednesday. Hopefully they can fill the wood reinsert the screw sleeve and solve the issue.
Any suggestions? This isn’t something I’d attempt to repair myself.

S0, I use threaded inserts when building my cabinets to secure the drivers. When I install the insert I put epoxy on the threads so they don't come out on the rare occasion the screws are removed. Try some epoxy, even if you need some Teflon tape to utilize the same insert. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks to everyone, I took it down to J Gravity Strings here in St. Louis. Jimmy filled the hole with new wood glued into place. Re placed the brass insert and voila, the screw has a place to screw into. Mike Newman also did some fret leveling, because even though I use Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt Flat Wounds after 22 years in service, the 55-94’s frets occasionally have flat spots. So, mischief managed

I had the most amazing time tonight at the Lakland Museum aka Dude's Mansion. Got to finally play all those unique Laklands we hear about. I'll tell you they are as nice as they look.

Well, it finally happened. My Lakland 55-63 has gone from my go-to for many years to now being pushed down the pecking order. I find myself going back to the 83 Jazz or the Roscoe. I love the pics of the Laklands.
