As somone with only the most rudimentary experience with electronics: How hard is it to change my Vintage J control layout to a volume/blend knob layout instead of the dual volume knobs? I love this bass, but I hate the J-style control layout.
Was that beauty for sale in Korea perhaps? I think I've ogled it on Reverb.
I looooove the maple blocks. My 44-64 build in progress is going to have a rosewood board with roasted maple blocks. I think they're a nice way to say "this bass is not a Fender, baby -- it's something special!"
It’s not difficult at all, for experienced folk. Honestly, I’d take it to someone to have the changes made. Soldering requires practice. And, you’d need to buy the blend pot, possibly some wire, soldering iron and solder, and follow a wiring diagram, which you probably don’t have experience with.
Great post, it kinda dispels the myth that their is a huge difference between maple and rosewood fingerboards.
Sure maple is brighter and it’s noticeable, but if I don’t watch the video it’s not as clear which is which. When he starts slapping
Maple’s maybe a bight brighter but the rosewood has a nice envelope more like a synth bass. Just my take. The differences are more noticeable through a good set of head phones, but
I don't usually wear headphones to concerts.

But... but... but... how can I justify to my spouse that I "need" the same bass with a different fretboard?
I did it by getting a 55/94 Ebony Lined Fretless to go with my 55/04 Maple fingerboard. It's tricky but with some effort
