Cool, yeah, definitely the Unipre you have there. If I understood correctly, if you remove the knobs from the misbehaving shaft, and operate it "naked", no problems at all?

Make sure the blinds are closed and the door is locked before misbehaving with your (or anyone else’s) naked shaft…

Yeah, with concentric pots, sometimes there's an "angle" which makes the knobs rub on each other, so you need to leave some space in between.

The 55-76 arrived from GC. Neck is dated 3/10/98. GC listed it as a 5175- that's the serial #. It plays well and truss is working but who the hell does this to a US Lakland? I'm sure the socket is stripped but my Lakland hex won't squeeze through this mess. The nut unscrews so it's replaceable. Bartolini preamp. The Bass Place sold it on Reverb 8 yrs ago and their ad stated a Nordstrand pickup. Anyone know what this actually is as it isn't a 24 yr old Nordy? She plays well with my Carvin LB75fl and the MM pickup location is only 1/16" difference.

Returned it to GC. The truss rod nut is at the end of it's adjustment no doubt why it is so chewed up. It has about a quarter turn left though it does work. Neck was been refinished likely to try and seal it from moving around. Don't know what the cheaper pickup is. On a more positive note I bought the red US Scheff in the TB classifieds that once was JJ's. Sold my blue quilt US Scheff a year ago as the neck was fatter than most.

I didn’t notice the Imola Scheff was for sale! That’s probably a good thing. I would have been very tempted, and do not need another bass that I don’t have room to house, at the moment.

Hey LOG! I come in need of your infinite wisdom. I have a 55-01 that I have upgraded pre to Nordstrand and pickups to Nordy big splits. I love the bottom end of the bass, but I feel like the highs are very high. (If I pop a sting its almost ear shattering.) I roll the tone back but I'm still not crazy about it. I've currently got fat beams on it, and am considering going to a set of flatwounds (i have a set on a squire p bass and love them.) Im almost at a place of selling it. Any advice?

I have a 44-01 with Big Singles, love them, Audere pre. Not overwhelming in the highs unless I want that. Audere pre is described as neutral, transparent, letting sound of pups bass coming through. Love my combination. How about trying EB COBALT Flats. They get high praise for a flat that sounds like rounds.

This may sound like a stupid question, but have you tried different amps? I noticed that this weekend, when playing on a friend's rig, the high mids were unbearable.

I'm going to ask Lakland to make me a US 65-T electric guitar (their Telecaster), but I want them to put the Decade Six 30" scale neck on it, so it is a baritone guitar (tuned B-E-A-D-F#/Gb-B) rather than a standard guitar. If they decline, then I'll get the Decade Six (which is a Bass VI--different body style; although I like the Tele body better) and possibly just put the lighter Baritone strings on it.

Does the dual J sound like the 55-60? (Assuming the same pick ups and electronics).
