Lakland Owners Group #69

oh, and on a separate note, I'm back in the Lakland saddle, as I picked up a J-sonic 4-string jazz today out of the classifieds. It's been a while since I played a bass with the chi-sonics, and my tastes might have changed a bit. Willing to give it another shot, and price was nice too.

will give a full report once it arrives next week.

So I can already feel my GAS starting to obsess over finding a Skyline 55-64. This might not end well for me; they're far and few between in the best of markets. In Norway, I've never seen one on the used market at any point in history.

Oh well, the thrill of the chase I guess.

Not exactly many other 35" 5-string P-basses out there in the same price bracket either.

Same.

i have more of an issue with the pickups than the preamp, as the 5 string Lakland pickups have the split between the coils right under the A string (a 2.5 and 2.5), where as the Barts have a 3 and 2 configuration, which doesn’t result in the A string having a drop in volume. The LH single coils are pretty good, but you single coil so you can’t solo them. My ‘99 is dead quiet when any pickup/coil is soloed (as was the ‘00 I had prior).

Pics just because :D

Plus I think the older Bart stuff sounds more “Fenderish” or classic, and is more usable than the more modern LH3 (or Bart replacements). All IMHO and YMMV.

Just asked in another thread but this might be more appropriate: did Lakland ever offer a lined fretless neck on the Korean (2003-2013) Skyline hobo?

Your 2003-2013 timeline is split in the middle between Korean and then Indonesian. There are Indonesian lined fretless HB's. I've not seen a Korean one. A couple years ago Lakland still had Skyline HB lined fretless necks available; I was quoted $400.
