Lakland Owners Group #69

Who is recommended source for pickguards these days?

I got mine straight from Lakland as a custom order. Very reasonably priced and was delivered across the Atlantic in about a week.

Rescued this from Japan. Delivered today. Cleaned and adjusted. Might need a little fretwork down the road, but for now, it’s rocking. Barts sound amazing w Ken Smith compressors. Must have been near a coastal city as some of the hardware is pretty oxidized for a 2005. The hardware, the aged cream guard, coral pink finish, and amber bem board give it a vintage bass vibe. 8.8#….which I find to be the sweet spot for resonance. Happy w this one.

Anybody know what happened to blondmix3? While searching around on here for 44-64GZ’s in the classifieds, I saw that he had one listed back in December 21. However, his last post prior appears to be in this thread a while before that.

Hey all... been a long time since I've posted in the group, or even on TB. Hope everyone is doing well!

Just curious if anyone in the LOG world is looking to unload a 44-64GZ? Please let me know!

Thanks,
Chris

Randy is busy with his photography business and is able to resist addiction to Talkbass ;-)

Ah, good to hear he’s well… and keeping busy. That TB addiction is definitely a tough one to break. I managed to stay away for the better part of the last 10 years or so, only logging in a handful of times (and now I’m back… *temporarily*).

Any idea if he still has that 44-64GZ, or how one might be able to get a hold of him outside of TB (guessing he must have a website for his photography)? << I found his website… I’ll reach out to see about the above question >>

Has anyone compared the Custom 44-64 fretless to the 44-02 fretless? I currently have the 44-64 P/J custom and I am very happy with it. But I find myself continually looking at 44-02 fretlesses on Reverb and no place to try one. I know the differences - active vs passive, different nut sizes. If someone has owned both or has experience with both what’s your opinion and thoughts? Thanks

Never had a PJ fretless ( yet).

Actually been wanting to do. P fretless for some time.

I did have a 4402 fretless and now have a few different ones...

Sorry can't compare.... But I can say that every Lakie or carlo fretless I've played has been excellent

Dropped a John East Unipre in my 55-94, I was underwhelmed with the steel knobs so, I had D_Cline make me these resin knobs.

Did the same mod to my '98, I really like the mid sweep and passive tone. I went with Sadowsky style knobs.

Did you have any issues with the body thickness? I found that the pot shafts were juuust long enough if I didn't use any interior washers...possibly part of why I had grounding issues at first.

I have been interested in upgrading a set of plasticky knobs on an otherwise fine bass. I looked for Cline’s contact information but all I could find was an old Facebook page and an unbuilt website. How did you reach him? He does beautiful work.
