I think the current runs of the DJs are the same spacing as the 44-60, however, there are examples in existence of the DJ having 70s spacing. I own both the 44-60 and a DJ4, and I can attest to the 70's spacing on my DJ4. I thought they were the same as well but after comparing side-by-side, I noticed a slight difference and took some measurements. Now take in consideration that the DJ4 I have was part of a special run for Chicago Music Exchange (at least that's what I've been able to deduce), so perhaps that was a specification that was requested or agreed upon.

Aside from the obvious aesthetic differences pointed out (body shape, 21 vs 20 frets), I notice some differences in the neck profiles. Both are about the same around the first position with the 1.5" width at the nut and similar thickness back to front, once you get out beyond the 12th fret, I noticed the DJ4 being slightly wider (also confirmed by measuring). The 44-60 is more rounded and a touch thicker than the DJ4. At least these are my observations on the basses I have.

I will add that I've seen some variances in neck profiles across the same model of Lakland. The 44-60 I have is a Skyline Custom in Ice Blue Metallic. After I purchased mine, the store got another exact model in a few weeks later. I was trying out some stuff and used that bass to compare some amps since I would have a good frame of reference on the tone. I was surprised how different the neck profile was particularly around the first position. It was noticeably thicker back to front.

Many of the neck profiles changed when they brought the CNC work inhouse too. I have been trying to nail down which ones changed (I know the 44-60 and 44-64 did) and whether or not the Skylines changed at the same time too or if they are still rocking the classic profiles. Now we have to factor in inconsistency at the factory too? :)

I should look to see if there was a time when the pickup positions changed. For a short time there was no DJ model. I wonder if it changed at that time. They were going to replace it with a new slightly different model.

Question for 55-94/55-02 owners. Has anyone wired their MM pickup; Parallel/Neck side inline pair/Series?
If I got this correctly, Lakland ships these out wired Neck Single Coil/Parallel/Bridge Single Coil.

I a 44-01 with a hum bucker in the bridge, wired with a 2-way. Neck Side/Double coil. I found the Parallel and Bridge Side to be unusable so when I changed my pick ups I also downsized the switch

I have the 44-64 GZ which I think has the same overall dimensions as this with the pickups being the primary difference (EMG GZR vs Lakland’s pickups). If so, it has a Jazz width neck and is probably one of the easiest basses to play for me. Super comfortable and well-balanced. My primary issue is that my ear has never bonded with ANY P/J that I’ve ever owned or played. But it is so visually appealing to me that I can’t bring myself to sell it. This Seafoam is the same for me which is why I’ve been reluctant to jump on one. Love the look: likely won’t like the sound.

As sound is really a personal preference, I can assure you the rest of the bass is stellar.

A local shop to me just got one in. If I can swing it soon, I'll see if I can stop down and give it a thorough demo. Having a couple Lakland jazz basses myself I can attest, and agree with Jamvan, about the jazz neck being very comfortable. I do love the aesthetic of the bass. That color with the pearloid guard is beautiful. I have those same inlays on my 44-60 and love them.
