I may try to find one out on the road to try while I'm on tour, but honestly I'm also considering just ordering one through guitar center just for the chance to take it home & compare it to my dj5, and then return it if I don't like what I hear. But you feel they're pretty different?

@Tom P yep they're iron rangers. I wear red wings when I build greenhouses, too, they're my brand.

And yeah @Johnny Alien and @JEDI BASS that pedalboard has been a journey to build. I'm kind of our synth player in addition to being the bassist, on a lot of songs I'm playing pad sounds in the verse or intro where I've pitched it up an octave or two then run it through a bunch of delay & reverb & modulation and then I'll switch over and play normal bass stuff in the chorus. I run three channels to the board, and a custom switcher that selects between them, one goes to a origin bassrig sv and the other in stereo to a radial pro d2 (mounted under the board.) I also have some of the normal stuff you'd expect on a bass board - compressor, fuzz, chorus, meatbox, ect.

I’m thinking about it. I go back and forth between the 44-94 and a 44-02 that I have. I figured I’d put it out there and see what bites. I jammed with it over the weekend and I noticed I was extra careful with it. I’m still not comfortable owning such an expensive instrument. I know it’s the best instrument I’ve owned and could be a lifer and the only bass I will need. Tone wise the 44-02 sounds a little warmer and is still a quality instrument.

Here’s a few pics of the Les Paul. It’s a ‘94 Studio that I bought in ‘97 for next to nothing as its headstock had been broken and poorly repaired. Dang near 30 years later and it still sounds great and the head hasn’t budged.

You know, I 100% get this. As strange as it may sound, my 55-94('s) rarely see a gig for the very same reason. Maybe if I played stadium concerts where there's security but too much stuff can happen inside a bar/casino/street dance that I don't feel comfortable having them with me.

But I DO play them all the time at home, rehearsals, and they are my primary recording instruments so they are getting used quite a bit.

And if it's worth anything to you, I get a Reverb email daily of things I may be interested in and it takes a looker to get me to click through to the site. It wasn't until I got to your listing that I realized "heeeyyyy, I think I know this bass!" And we did tell you you could likely sell it for more than what you bought it for. :thumbsup:

Thanks for sharing that you go through the same thing. I will be making money on it. But I got it for such a deal, does it make sense to sell? I have to think about this.

You have to think seriously about it. I have defaulted to my Warwick Infinity lately and my 44-94 has been relegated to the back seat, considered selling it, but it would be a repeat of times past. I pull it out again and it's like slipping on your favourite shoes, comfortable, easy to play and sounds great, then you go why am I selling this????
The fact is you own it, it's an investment and regret will seep in down the track once you sell it.

Sand down back of neck (1000 grit or scotch brite) until it smooth as a baby’s butt

carefully get rid of all sawdust

Apply Howard’s Orange oil the back of neck

allow to soak in. A few hours to overnight

apply Howard’s Feed and Wax to back of neck

allow to soak in. A few hours to overnight

rub back of neck with microfiber cloth (or steel wool, I prefer the cloth)

enjoy


Repeatable at any time you wish to refresh.

Turned out the sale was a scam. "I'll send a check and the hauler will pick it up" scam. That's happened to me before. Oh well, now I get more time with the 44-94 to see if it really is a keeper or I want it just because it's a high end bass. I did pick up and play my DJ-4 yesterday for the first time in 6 weeks. That has been my main bass. Man, does it sound sweet, and it's passive. Now THAT is a keeper!
