Lakland Owners Group #69

This is such an understated song, I kept having to go back and re-record my part, removing more and more of what I was doing to keep my parts simple and out of the way. It turned out pretty dang good if I do say so myself.

Please give it a listen if you are so inclined.



While we have ~12 songs recorded (at this point), Jake, my BL, is choosing to only release singles over the course of 2023 rather than packaging them into a full album. A sign of the current attention deficit state of modern music consumption.

Very nice. Just what the song needed, nothing more. Sounds great.

What a beautiful song about something way too many parents suffer through. You did the right thing! The bass is exactly what the song needed!

Just received new to me Hollowbody. It's my 4th or 5th one already, keep returning to this particular model. This time Chi-Sonic one, previous owner upgraded it with J-Retro (vol bal tone bass treble) and it actually works very well, much better than original vol vol..

Thank you for that song. I thought the bass was perfectly well done. I too am part of that club that no one wants to ever be a part of. So the words meant a lot to me even though the name was different.

Thank you. I'm reminded of this every time I record something...which then bleeds into my criticque of my live playing and realizing that I don't ALWAYS have to use so many ghost notes and flourishes.

Thank you. Of all the songs we've recorded, I like to go back and listen to alternate takes and it never ceases to amaze me that the simplest take is always what was best for the song. At least in service to this band/songwriter.

Thank you. I'm so sorry for your loss as it never gets any easier. We had many conversations regarding whether or not we should even release this song as a friend asked him to write it to help her cope with her loss. We thought it might be too personal but our decision ultimately came down to exactly what you said; it's a song of love and hope and remembrance and there are many people who can relate even if the name is different.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss. Much love.

Since I've purchased a 44-02 about 6 weeks ago, it's been by go to bass, the first one I pick up at home when I play. My DJ-4, my first Lakland, has taken a back seat, but I will never get rid of it. I had a jam session last night with some friends and brought both basses to compare them in a band setting. Man, the 44-02 just has so much punch and bottom end. I don't want to relegate my DJ-4 to just a back up bass, but if I had to choose only one, the 44-02 would be the keeper. At least for now ;-)

I feel ya Thom! I had a 4-94 that was a truly unique Lakland. Will give details if any one is interested. So versatile. I have a J bass that does J bass tones very well. My modded 44-01 gets me into J bass territory very well with big single pups. My goal is to get back to 44-02 versatility. Have talked to Lakland and I have a plan which will start to hatch this week. When that plan is finished, I anticipate that 44-02 will be my #1 and first grab all the time!

Start with a John East UNI PRE 5 knob. Highly configurable for individual pup gain in active mode. Selectable EQ points for bass and treble. Mid is sweepable, which is key for me that will just increase the 44-02’s versatility. 18 volts for a little extra headroom and extend battery life. Just natural finish on standard body, no deluxe top and maple fretboard. Anticipate this being ultimate player for me. My extra special 44-01 and other basses are going to be collecting dust.
