What are we going to do with these young'un's. If they don't understand where to get great bass deals let alone the surf/seafoam/teal triad how will they ever understand women?

Ok, I'll give it up: only Chuck Norris understands women.;)

For something infinitely easier go to the Lakland site and sign up for their weekly email list. Now if they'd only build and B-stock a surf/seafoam/teal-burst w/o pickguard HB30...

I picked up a new U.S. Series 44-60 the other day. The bass plays phenomenally well. I’ve noticed some finish imperfections on the body, but the quality of the neck finish and fingerboard finish is top notch. I traded a couple of my USA G&Ls for it.

Has anyone bought or played one of the new short scale P/J’s? I ordered one as soon as I saw them on the web site. They are in the US classic series and the specs are ideal for what I want, but I’m curious if anyone has played one who would share their opinion of it. It should arrive in a month or so and I’ll post a pic when it arrives.

Ha! I'm finding the opposite! I spent a lot of money modifying a 44–01 with USA Bartolini's and a new preamp (avatar)… but I just can't connect with it, I am a jazz guy through and through. I was going to ask people if the skyline DJ 4 is comparable to the 44-01/02...? Anyone?

The DJ is considered a step up from an 01. But, a passive Jazz with a slim neck shares little with the active 01/02 basses with wider nut widths, and very different body shapes. I prefer the neck and body shape of an 01/02. I also prefer the sound.

I too have a heavily modded 44-01. Pre and pups. Totally different than 44-02 or a J. That being said, I can get very J like tones because of the Big Singles and 4 band pre. For true J tones I grab my J. I still have my plans for a specific 44-02 because of it’s versatility. I’m sure it will be the one I pick up the most when I’m done modding it. 44-02 has the neck and body shape I like the most.

I'm still not 100% sold on the 44-02. As I said, it's the first bass I pick up, but I am not sure if it's because I really do like it, or if I am trying to convince myself I like it. If that makes sense. I do love the single volume and blend knobs. Those are super convenient and it is definitely a punchier tone. The 44-02 is also a pound lighter than the DJ-4 and I appreciate that. It's also the first active bass I have owned and there are definitely advantages to the active set up. I also found that I prefer the 44-02 at home and for recording, but the DJ-4 when jamming with friends. I think it's the simplicity of the plug and play of a passive bass. And it looks cooler.

The DJ-4 has sentimental value to it (my first Lakland and modeled after Adam Clayton's DJ-4) and I couldn't consider selling it. But, if I were to have only one bass, I think it would be the 44-02. If anyone has had similar experiences, please share.
