Still bonding getting to know all the nuances of this 44-02. Next change will be the Bart pups and flat switch like the originals, then eventually the pre if I feeling the need to have more tone sculpting, like having more spices on tap.
Was going to upload pic of the John East 5 knob Uni Pre, but I’m having a problem uploading pics. Anybody else have that problem recently?
44-01 is 2011 8.4 lbs,
44-02 is 2022 8.4 lbs as well.
44-01 finish has aged, (yellowed) nicely. Hard to see how much in the photo.

Thanks for the information comparing the two. I’m always curious how different models compare.
Playability on both is exceptional
These two are VERY DIFFERENT from each other. 44-02 super versatile with LH3 system. 44-01 on the other hand with single coil pups different tone altogether. When combined with Audere pre that has different Z modes gives different tones from deep, to sizzling aggressive highs just by selecting Z modes with rotary switch, without even touching 4 band pre. Completely different option for a bass choice for what is needed. Both are great choices of excellence! Both of theses at a gig would not leave much to be desired.
Well, Leo and John are taking care of me regarding the finish on my 44-60. I’ll update once it’s done. This is why small (and local) companies are good to deal with.
I would expect nothing else from them. I have always had prompt and excellent service from Lakland.
I do legitimately feel bad bugging them with the issue, but I feel worse letting it slide. I’m grateful they’re willing to go over the top and help out. I know other companies would not.

I have owned about a hundred of them over the years (and I'm not a dealer) but currently only five. I think I had 10 at the same time at one point. Yeah, I guess you could say I have a problem.
