Does anyone regularly use an active Lakland in passive mode? I’ve got a 44-02 that no one seems to want to buy but I haven’t used in a long time. I’ve come to prefer passive basses these days. I don’t care for the preamp sound. It seems to be overly Bright and at the same time sorta strangles/homogenizes the mids. The output in passive mode is pretty weak, but usable. Obviously there’s no passive tone control, but that’s not a huge issue.
Pull out the preamp and put some Aeros in it and call it good. I play with a light touch and prefer active basses myself
Yeah, you'd need different pickups to use it in passive mode.
It maybe the strings or maybe turn down the treble, it was never a issue for me. Passive is fine my board has EQ if needed.
You can, but the output is very low. You'll have to crank up the gain in your amp or board. If passive is your thing, I'd try to trade the 44-02 for a nice passive bass
I’d love to trade this 44-02 for a nice passive J bass, but no one wants it. There’s a nice looking Lakland for sale here on TB right here in my state too. But I can’t justify buying any more basses now. I love the Lakin J that I have with flats on it. I want another J with rounds and experience the two side by side. I figured maybe the 44-02 might get me close without buying anymore friggin basses.
I've seen this listed here on TB. It's certainly priced to sell. Have you considered changing this from Local Pickup to Shipping? That would increase your chance of selling it.
100% the reason its not selling here. At that price it would sell quickly if you shipped. Not saying you SHOULD ship I am just saying thats why its not selling here. I have been a member here and selling for more years than I care to admit (edited to add: 20 years according to my profile) and I don't think I ever had one sale that was local.
I did have two interested buyers that I would have shipped to, but they both backed out. I had one bad experience selling a bass here once that kind of soured my desire to ship basses around.
About 25 years ago, I started buying, selling, and shipping bass guitars, amps, and even fridge-sized speaker cabinets like the Bergantino NV215. Some early transactions involved sending and/or receiving cashier's checks. I believe those were transactions on ebay. Anyways, I've had around 400 positive transactions on ebay, and 138 here on TB. Needless to say, with some common sense, packing materials, and some heavy duty packing tape you should have no issues shipping a bass. I always pack thinking "If I drop this from a few feet up, would there be damage?" Then I pad the bass even more, and (even though I hear it's useless) I buy insurance when I ship.

Finally switched out the old electronics and solder the new parts in my Lakland Skyline 44-64LE.
