About 25 years ago, I started buying, selling, and shipping bass guitars, amps, and even fridge-sized speaker cabinets like the Bergantino NV215. Some early transactions involved sending and/or receiving cashier's checks. I believe those were transactions on ebay. Anyways, I've had around 400 positive transactions on ebay, and 138 here on TB. Needless to say, with some common sense, packing materials, and some heavy duty packing tape you should have no issues shipping a bass. I always pack thinking "If I drop this from a few feet up, would there be damage?" Then I pad the bass even more, and (even though I hear it's useless) I buy insurance when I ship.

Meanwhile I’ve been playing the 44-02 for a few days and you know what? It’s sounding pretty sweet. I did buy the thing because I liked it after all. I’m taking it to a rehearsal in an hour or so and maybe I’ll take it out into the real world Saturday night. I’ve got to shed this addiction to acquiring new basses and play what I already have.
I ordered a new pickguard and I had to send in the original pickguard so they could trace a copy. I figure since I had to unscrew the electronics from the guard, it’s a good opportunity for me to get the parts I want and make the wiring runs cleaner than the way I got it. Plus the tone pot was finicky. Glad I got to put in some time with the ‘ol soldering kit.

I asked about the wiring. Finally switched my electronics out a few days ago. Im curious, what bass was the electronics swap for?
I actually swapped the electronics bad to stock for right now. I did it on a US Series 44-60. I am working something up for another try with different pickups. I’ve actually tried a handful of sets in there already. The best so far was a set of Fralin’s. Unfortunately, the neck pup didn’t really fit the route well and wouldn’t adjust.
My new HH 30 arrived and it’s everything I hoped for. I know they’re somewhat expensive for a short-scale but I’m surprised mine is serial #5. Plays and sounds fantastic and is a perfect companion to my SS Decade and HB30. I wish it came in a right-sized case.
I did some home recording with my Lakland 44-02. Man, that bass is a beast! I can get so many different tones from it, and I am finally comfortable enough with it to be able to dial in what I want. As my first active bass, that took some time to get used to. But man, it sounds so good, and fits my hands like a glove. My DJ-4 still gets some love, but not nearly as much as my 44-02.
Glad you bonded more with it Thom! There are so many tones in the 44-02. The pre amp takes some getting used to but if you work with it, many objections people may have can be easily overcome. I love mine.
So, I committed to this beauty late last week and it's a bit different for me but really looking forward to it. The fretless thing should be a fun distraction over the impending cold and dark months ahead with teh goal of actually taking it out and playing it live for a significant time. I have had a thing for the J-Sonic for a while, bought a fretted one that sadly had a bad neck and went back. Then this one popped up a few months back, I mulled, procrastinated and missed it. Then it just became available again in a semi-local deal and that should be able pick up by next weekend.

I can see how it would sound great as a fretless as well. Congratulations.

I've had several basses with those pickups. Loved them all.
I've been looking for one of those, WITH frets
I am still discovering tonal range of my US 55-60 and this 20 years old bass with Fralins just got me. Great dynamic stable tone. In this case, US is worthed.
